Glossary

All units that MiGRIDS Lite expects are in kilowatt (kW) for power, and in killowatt-hour (kWh) for energy.

Load

An hourly timeseries of the electrical load to be met. Must be of the same length as the resource.

Resource

An hourly timeseries of the renewable energy available. In MiGRIDS Lite, it is energy agnostic, so it can be wind, solar, or any other source. It must be of the same length as the load.

Spinning reserve

Also known as operating reserve, it is the overhead capacity needed if either the resource availability drops or the load increases.

Storage/Battery

An energy storage device defined by rated input/charge, output/discharge, and storage capacity. Most commonly, these are known as batteries. For MiGRIDS Lite, these terms are used interchangeably. These are treated as technology agnostic, like the resource.
