feat(deed): (nostos …) repo-deed vocabulary (draft v0.1) - #1204
Conversation
Declares a `(nostos …)` clause for repo deeds. For each artefact a repo depends on (tool, runtime, SDK, library, game, dataset, model), it records every way back to where that artefact came from: - (fetch …): how to get it again; each fetch names its own :manager (mise, asdf, guix, apt, opam, alire, cargo, …), so mise is one manager among several rather than the frame - (digest …): how to check a fetch; signatures reserved for a later version - (part …): pieces that can be fetched alone (binary, source, sdk, docs, …) - (docs …): documentation that refreshes independently (Update-Help pattern) - (kin …): the maker's other work - (feed …): typed change feeds (security, release, deprecation, eol, addon, funding, news) - (contact …): typed channels to the maker, each with :found-at so a reader can refresh before sending Reader obligations include refresh-before-send for contacts, never reporting an artefact without a digest as verified, and reporting (never resolving) disagreement with .tool-versions / mise.toml / build/guix.scm. Same pattern as vocabulary/updates.adoc (#1110) and vocabulary/maturity.adoc (#1139). Grammar unchanged: a `clause` under deed.abnf v1.0.0. Fixture: tools/fixtures/valid/nostos-clause_chora.deed exercises every term and passes deed_lint.py. The corpus run still reports one failure, fixtures/valid/uuid8-clade_chora.deed, which fails identically on origin/main (the linter does not yet admit #u8). 📝 SummarySummary by CodeRabbit
WalkthroughThis change adds a draft v0.1 Nostos vocabulary for dependency and artefact information. It defines fields and reader obligations, gives an example, and adds a valid deed fixture covering ChangesNostos vocabulary
Priority: ⬇️ Low Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes Change: Feature Suggested reviewers: Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to This draft defines how dependency records describe downloads, digests, and maker contacts, but no tool uses it yet. Several rules should be tightened before a reader implements them. A digest should be counted as verified only when it matches the bytes. Contact pages should be fetched safely over HTTPS with destination checks. The draft is mergeable with these follow-ups. Security Architecture ReviewSecurity architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to The draft leaves important verification and contact-trust requirements underspecified. Immediate exposure is limited because it adds declarations and a fixture, not an installer, network client, or sender. These requirements should be settled before automated readers adopt the vocabulary. Retained concerns

pin with the matching fetch’s :ref when present, falling back to :version only
when :ref is absent; preserve the existing behavior of reporting drift without
resolving conflicting values.
- Line 80: Update the `:covers` vocabulary entry to require a primary archive
when coverage is omitted, and make `part:` coverage identify exactly one part,
including its platform when classes are shared across platforms.
- Around line 140-141: Update the `release` entry in the `nostos` vocabulary so
it claims major, minor, or patch classification only for the `semver` version
scheme, not for every scheme other than `opaque`.
- Around line 171-172: Update the artefact verification rule so a reader reports
an artefact as verified only after hashing the bytes covered by an applicable
`(digest …)` clause with its `:algo` and matching the result to `:value`;
missing or mismatching digests must leave it unverified.
- Around line 157-158: Update the `:url` and `:found-at` field definitions in
the Nostos vocabulary to require HTTPS URLs. Specify that readers validate
certificates and reject redirects that downgrade to HTTP before fetching or
sending data; leave unrelated contact-field definitions unchanged.
- Around line 174-175: Update the reader obligations near “Refresh before send”
to require an outbound-fetch policy for `:found-at` that rejects loopback,
link-local, and private-network destinations after DNS resolution and after
every redirect.

34-34: 🗄️ Data Integrity & IntegrationNo version-specific change is established.
The Nostos vocabulary defines
:channelas a release stream and permits an optional manager-specific:ref. It does not require every fetch to encode the artefact version. The clause only records fetch descriptions; novendormanager resolves this URL in the repository. The conditional mismatch is therefore unsupported.

Make :covers resolve to one byte sequence.
An omitted :covers targets the primary archive, but the vocabulary permits no primary. Also, part:<class> can match multiple parts when the same class has different platforms. Require a primary for the default target and make part coverage identify one part.

Do not infer major, minor, or patch for every non-opaque scheme.
calver and pep440 do not define a universal major/minor/patch classification. Restrict this claim to semver, or define a classification rule for each scheme.

Compare pins with the manager-specific :ref when present.
:ref records the version string a manager uses when it differs from :version. A reader that compares a tool-file pin directly with :version can report an intentional manager-specific value as drift. State that the reader compares the pin with the matching fetch's :ref when present, and otherwise with :version.

The page cited deed.abnf v1.0.0 and said identifiers would use #u5 until the ABNF admits v8. v1.1.0 (#1198) already admits #u8 (ADR-008 profile C), so any future identifier field uses #u8"<domain>:<name>". Also corrects the previous commit message: uuid8-clade_chora.deed does not fail on main. That result came from the retired deed_lint.py; the Bun linter CI runs (deed_lint.js) passes the whole fixture corpus. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
