[Bug]: Enabling 'Screen & System Audio Recording' doesn't work #45
Hi! Great work.
On first installation of the Recordly app, I was able to make a demo recording of 18s, and the export time was slow, really slow; that prompted to make another installation, looking for a potential fix in the latest release (1.0.9). Then the issue started, enabling 'Screen & System Audio Recording' doesn't work, re-installed & tried like 3 times, still doesn't work
Expected behavior
On install or app start, I enable 'Screen & System Audio Recording' and I get to record.
Regardless of the existing app permissions state, I still get prompted to enable permissions. It's like the loop thing where the permission state don't get captured by Recordly
Unfortunately there's no easy way to resolve this issue but an auto-updating system is in the works and will resolve this.
But usually, removing all the permissions for Recordly - including deleting Recordly completely from the list of apps given permissions - will resolve this issue.
Same issue for me, I couldn't figure out how to Delete Recordly completely from the list of apps given permissions and then re-add. I tried removing the app (deleting from Applications and emptying trash) rebooting, and reinstalling, but MacOS seemed to retain the permissions already granted. App seems cool, but I can't get audio to work. It shows audio in the Microphone selector, but the recordings have no audio. Video works though.

Same issue. Tried running the suggested command in Terminal and gave me attached
Recordly is notarised now, you don't need to run the command anymore as Apple will mark it as safe
If recordly doesn't bring up the permission panel go to System Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Make sure it's removed from Accessibility, Screen & System Audio Recording, then relaunch Recordly and it will ask for the permissions again, approve them

Have you tried fully removing the permissions and re-assigning them?
contigen commentedon Mar 16, 2026
Yes, did that severally. I made sure the app wasn't listed in the 'Screen & System Audio Recording' entry even and then retried

Have you given the app this permission?

contigen commentedon Mar 16, 2026
Yes, confirmed now, enabled
webadderall commentedon Mar 16, 2026
And the issue still persists, right? No permission prompts when you go into the Screen/Window selection

Try entering: xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Recordly.app
And then: Delete Recordly completely from the list of apps given permissions, and then manually re-add

this Method worked

Not sure why this comment is being hidden by Github but I'll re-comment it here
