ResumeDB

Connect university students with industry recruiters for internships.

ResumeDB Demo

Overview

ResumeDB is an application designed to bridge the gap between talented university students and recruiters looking for their next intern. It serves as a centralized platform where students can create profiles, list their education, experience, and skills, and upload their resumes for recruiters to find.

Project Context

This project was developed as part of Ada's Team, an initiative focused on promoting diversity and inclusion in technology. ResumeDB served as a practical learning experience for the team to understand and implement Agile and Scrum methodologies in a real-world software development lifecycle. Working in sprints, the team practiced collaborative coding, iterative development, and regular stand-ups.

Features

  • Applicant Profile Creation: Detailed forms for personal info, education history, work experience, and technical skills.
  • Resume Management: ability to upload and store resume files (PDF/DOCX).
  • User Accounts: Secure registration and login system for applicants and recruiters.
  • Authentication: Implemented using JSON Web Tokens (JWT) for secure, stateless sessions.

Technology Stack

This application is built using the PERN stack, leveraging the power of full-stack JavaScript:

  • PostgreSQL: Relational database for storing user data, forms, and relationships.
  • Express: Fast, unopinionated web framework for Node.js, handling API routing and middleware.
  • React: Frontend library for building a dynamic, responsive user interface.
  • Node.js: Runtime environment for executing JavaScript on the server side.

Cloud Infrastructure

  • AWS S3: Integration for scalable and secure storage of user-uploaded resume files.

Getting Started

  1. Clone the repository.
  2. Install dependencies for both server and client:
    npm install
    cd client && npm install
  3. Set up your PostgreSQL database and .env configuration (including AWS credentials).
  4. Run the application:
    # Run backend and frontend concurrently (if configured)
    npm run dev
