Welcome to FarmIT, a project that helps farmers make their practices more efficient and sustainable. FarmIT is a project that aims to develop an integrated system that will optimize irrigation and fertigation by providing them with visual maps of the farm.
Developed in collaboration with Sociedade Agricola Casal da Cotovia and INIAV in Portugal, FarmIT is a low-cost digital assistant designed to support farmers towards zero-waste agriculture and optimal water management. Sociedade Agrícola Casal da Cotovia is a family-owned company committed to sustainable farming practices in environmental, social, and economic aspects. They actively modernize their farming processes with technology and digital tools, primarily growing blueberries, almonds, and pistachios.
With the help of farm sensors, the assistant can assess the condition of the blueberries and provide the farmer with important information, guidance, and visual maps. Farmers will be alerted when their blueberries need more or less water, ensuring that the plants receive the appropriate care they require.
By developing this farming assistant, we are trying to solve several challenges. For example, farmers struggle to optimize water usage efficiently, and the funds available to adopt new agricultural technologies are limited, making it essential to develop a low-cost solution. Additionally, complex administrative and regulatory requirements can be overwhelming for the farmers, and the lack of a digital system that helps them understand the bureaucratic requirements creates a significant challenge. To overcome these obstacles, our farming assistant will provide a comprehensive solution that optimizes water usage and the filling of these regulatory documents. The assistant should offer a user-friendly digital system for farmers' intuitive comprehension.
