gcc-14 is optimized again
The -build images now ship gcc-14 14.3.0-oi-3. Since May (v1.0.9,
builder 2.0.7) they carried 14.3.0-oi-1 and later oi-2, which
OpenIndiana had built with --disable-bootstrap and empty CFLAGS: the
compiler itself ran unoptimized, and C++ builds took about three times
as long as with gcc-13 (#4, a 17 -> 45 minute
Bitcoin Core build). Reported as https://www.illumos.org/issues/18478,
fixed in oi-userland PR 27735, and the rebuilt package landed in
hipster on 2026-10-03; builder 2.1.3 rebuilds the images on it.
Same file, -std=c++20 -O2 -c, on the 202604-build image:
g++ 14.3.0-oi-3 6.0 - 7.4 s (oi-2 on v1.1.7: 13 - 15.6 s)
g++ 13.4.0-oi-2 5.4 s
If you switched to gcc-13 to work around it, gcc-14 is usable again.
The old image cannot be repaired in place: its August incorporation
rejects oi-3, so a
pkg update developer/gcc-14in prepare findsnothing.
New: cache-after-prepare-key-suffix
The cache-after-prepare key covers the prepare text only, so when
prepare runs a script from your repository, editing that script did
not rebuild the prepared image (vmactions/freebsd-vm#167). The optional
cache-after-prepare-key-suffix input is appended to the key: bump it by
hand, or set it to a hash of the files prepare depends on, e.g.
cache-after-prepare-key-suffix: deps-${{ hashFiles('ci/deps.sh') }}
Empty by default; nothing changes unless you set it.
Also
customshell test runs once, on the default release), two of them
new for cache-after-prepare-key-suffix. 27 pass and the 9p job is
skipped as before.
