Sniffypedia

Sniffypedia is an open, collaborative repository of radio-identifiable, or "sniffable", things, represented as structured data.

Radio-identifiable things, like Bluetooth Low Energy devices, RAIN RFID tags, and more, often include organisation/product/service-specific identifiers. The corresponding organisations products and services exist on the Web as a source of complementary information. The goal of this Sniffypedia is to connect the two, so that anything identified in the physical world can be readily looked up on the Web.

The project was started in 2016 (press release), following the SEO-motivated adoption of structured, linked data embedded in webpages in the form of Schema.org and JSON-LD (which became a W3C recommendation in 2014). This meant that software could fetch the webpage associated with some thing and expect to find a standard representation of at least the name and image associated with the organisation, product or service.

AI disclosure and tooling

This project is maintained by human developers. Beginning in 2026, development has been assisted by the following Artificial Intelligence models and tools:

All AI-assisted development by reelyActive has been executed using open models running locally on resource-efficient hardware.
