NMSh should feel at least as capable as a well-configured zsh setup while it owns the editor. The goal is not to re-enable zsh-autosuggestions, zsh-syntax-highlighting, or other ZLE UI plugins and let them fight NMSh.
Preferred solution order
Reproduce useful behavior natively in NMSh.
Import/read safe configuration or data from the user's zsh setup.
Bridge to existing zsh/plugin logic without transferring terminal/editor ownership.
Yield plugin UI ownership only where NMSh explicitly and safely hands off.
Coordinates with the /syntax work, #52 (completion), and #16 (zsh config interoperability).
Roadmap update: suggestions moved
Suggestion ranking, partial/word-by-word acceptance and richer history-derived suggestions now live in #137 (Suggestion providers) and #138 (NMSh Native Suggestions v2). zsh-autosuggestions compatibility research is a section of #137. History-search widgets belong to #143.
This issue keeps alias/function awareness, syntax-role accuracy, and command-not-found/error presentation. Correction suggestions are tracked in #152.
Remaining native shell/editor intelligence is in progress on feature/v011-shell-intelligence, stacked on completion PR #267. Scope is live shell alias/function name metadata, bounded syntax-role accuracy, inspector/completion awareness and evidence-based failure presentation. Existing suggestions/history/correction systems are reused. Physical QA remains deferred; no merge is authorized.
Remaining native shell intelligence work is stacked in #268 with cumulative hardening #269 and final acceptance #271. Live name-only alias/function metadata, bounded syntax roles and diagnostic-backed existing failure rows preserve raw PTY/copy/journal behavior. Final exact head 4a5ef78 passed 845/845 locally and Node 22/26 CI. The intermediate Node 26 temporary-root failure and later diagnosed fixture races remain documented. Physical QA is deferred in docs/testing/v011-physical-qa.md; issue stays open.
Implemented on the v0.16 branch (PR #303, feature/v016-platform-portability-agents). Alias/function awareness (name-only metadata), bounded syntax roles and diagnostic-backed failure presentation shipped; suggestion work moved to #137/#138 and correction suggestions to #152. It was part of the integrated build the maintainer physically validated in the earlier v0.16 QA pass; closing with the implementation.
