Otis Powell - Software and Data Engineer

Hi, I'm Otis Powell

I'm a Software & Data Engineer building data pipelines, interactive web applications and tools that help people explore decisions. I work across Python, SQL, TypeScript, React and practical AI integration.

I'm interested in software and data engineering opportunities, freelance projects and collaborations where clear assumptions and useful interfaces matter.

Selected work

  • EV vs ICE Intelligence Lab — A portfolio prototype combining a Python data pipeline, SQLite artifacts, Next.js APIs and a React dashboard for vehicle cost and emissions comparisons. Explore the pipeline and test coverage. Results depend on source dates and adjustable assumptions; read its current status before using the demo.

  • TravelTiming — A Streamlit application that ranks destinations using historical climate data and preference scoring, with optional AI summaries. The repository explains its data, scoring and local setup.

  • UK Dating Pool Calculator — An interactive population estimate explorer using published UK demographic statistics. Its methodology documents sources, denominators and approximation limits. Estimates describe populations, not personal dating odds.

  • Fragrance Collection — A personal catalogue in HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript with search, occasion filters and detail views. Changes stay in the current browser; recommendations use curated heuristics. The README links the interaction code and records a bounded live review.

Energy systems and decision support

At Terajoule, I work on energy modelling pipelines, data transformation and analytical tools. This includes preparing data for PyPSA and PLEXOS workflows, exploring demand and scenario outputs, and building dashboards that make model assumptions and results easier to inspect.

Commercial client systems and proprietary datasets remain private. Public repositories demonstrate selected techniques and independent projects.

Passport Powell

I built passportpowell.com, my travel website and personal publishing project. It brings together travel writing, photography and my interest in building useful digital experiences.
