The two roles are not separate. Clinical psychiatry is a daily encounter with the failure modes of complex cognitive systems — belief fixation, commitment dysregulation, precision misallocation, loss of error signal. These are not metaphors for AI failure modes. They are the same failure modes, described from a different vantage point with decades of mechanistic research behind them.
This profile is the engineering side of that intersection.
REE is an experimental architecture exploring whether ethical behaviour can emerge from internal system dynamics rather than imposed constraints. It models decision-making as competing simulated futures, with commitment, error, and residual signals shaping behaviour over time.
The architecture was not designed to produce psychiatric phenomenology — but when specific components fail or are absent, the resulting behavioural patterns correspond structurally to recognised clinical syndromes. This makes it a candidate generative model for computational psychiatry, not merely a label system.
