New C# Language Server?

Curious if the new open source official language server can be used in gnome builder?

I've had a look into this - is the new LSP host actually open source?

Looking at vscode-csharp, I can see the language server is called Microsoft.CodeAnalysis.LanguageServer.

This is imported into the VS Code extension using this subdirectory which is just a nuget package referencing the Language Server.

Ah, so it seems to be included in-tree inside Roslyn.

I'll have a go at porting this plugin to work with it. If it works well enough, I'll upstream this into builder directly.

I did have a go at this and got nowhere with it. Unfortunately I no longer daily drive Builder so while I'd like to revisit this at some point, I don't expect it'll be any time soon.

For some details:

• I've used the new LSP and it's a big improvement over OmniSharp, but still falls short compared to Rider and Visual Studio proper. It's also very tightly integrated into Roslyn and VSCode. I think it would take a decent amount of work to have something distributable with Builder.

• The biggest issue I had doing C# in Builder is that Builder does not support multiple projects. Given that most C# solutions are multi-project, I found that a much bigger drawback than the LSP itself. I think holistic C# support in Builder is still worthwhile but it would take a lot of work to get it to be somewhat useful.

I tried builder for a few days and to be honest I'm quite disappointed with it. Too much basic functionality I would expect from an IDE is missing and not just for C#. There are also some design choices and bugs that really slow me down. Considering that it is mainly one developer project and he doesn't even work on it lately I think it is not a viable option. What IDE do you use?

I'm really not into Builder but it looks like it is possible to add custom panels? If there would be some "SolutionPanel" which lists all the projects, it could perhaps allow a user to select a single project to start?
