Summary

  • Preserve connected hub/Remote Link integrations across API stop, manager termination and signal cleanup. Server ownership precedence is sibling → validated connected client → receipt-backed deferral → restoration. Connected stops retain receipts and truthfully report skipped shared teardown.
  • Verify shutdown preservation against the exact runtime before manager mutation and again before POST/kill. Use PID-bound capabilities and proxy-independent transport; unsupported live runtimes refuse. Proven absence plus an inactive manager preserves repeated-stop and stopped-service update behavior.
  • Correct native-routing and stale-Link-PID status guidance, sibling help, lifecycle ownership docs and Japanese/Korean/Russian/Simplified Chinese translations. Declare actual stop GET/POST discovery, shrink existing metadata debt, and regenerate operating references. CLI index is 1,983 lines; runtime.md remains 600.

Focused metadata command at current source: Bun 1.4.3 bun test tests/server/management-route-registry.test.ts tests/cli/cli-capabilities.test.ts tests/cli/cli-capability-data.test.ts tests/ci-workflows/skill-ocx.test.ts: exit 0, 101 pass / 0 fail. The preceding unchanged runtime implementation at 093971cd3444fe7160bebcef3d857319ed2e4fea passed the focused command below (exit 0, 404 pass / 0 fail); the final commit changes pure discovery metadata/docs only, and the current-head changed suite above supplies broad execution coverage.

bun test tests/service/stop-deferred-teardown.test.ts tests/service/autostart-health.test.ts tests/providers/xai/grok-lifecycle.test.ts tests/cli/cli-dispatch.test.ts tests/cli/cli-stop-json.test.ts tests/update/update-stop-classification.test.ts tests/codex-integration/codex-signin-lockout.test.ts tests/service/stale-state-purge.test.ts tests/server/server-management-auth.test.ts tests/server/local-management-direct-transport.test.ts tests/lab/core-lab-boundary.test.ts tests/lab/core-link-boundary.test.ts tests/ci-workflows/file-size-ratchet.test.ts

Regression-first evidence: original ownership tests 1 pass / 5 fail → 6 pass / 0 fail; JSON condition reversal 0 pass / 2 fail. Compatibility/exit-cleanup/stale-PID regressions 0 pass / 5 fail → 5 pass / 0 fail. Actual proxy-environment regression 0 pass / 1 fail → pass. Repeated-stop/update controls 4 pass / 1 fail → 5 pass / 0 fail. Discovery regression 0 pass / 1 fail → focused green. Earlier changed run found two missing-GET inventory failures; declarations were fixed without new exemptions or debt entries.

The current-head serial override bun run test:changed --parallel=1 reached the unchanged repository 900-second suite limit, exit 124. Partial output: 23,296 pass / 38 skip / 0 fail across 1,031 file headers, without a final aggregate; not a passing run. Capability metadata broadened selection beyond the prior 403 files. scripts/test.ts:351–357 documents serial isolate overhead and uses four workers by default. The successful run above uses that default, under the shared single-command heavy lease, with no assertion, test deadline or suite deadline changes.

Full local bun run test through the host-local pre-push hook was interrupted (owned push exit 143); no final aggregate or passing claim. Host contention and that Git-metadata incident made another full local run impractical; broad changed coverage above and exact-head cross-platform CI cover the remaining gate. The manager explicitly approved git push --no-verify origin HEAD:fix/child-routing-hint because the host-local hook altered Git metadata. The repository documents bun run prepush as optional; all required local checks were run independently. CI remains the merge gate.

NOT RUN: completed full local suite; live stop/start on user installations. Process effects use isolated fixtures; the proxy-environment regression uses disposable loopback listeners and a test-only token. Pending/skipped/older-head CI results are not passing evidence.

Decisions

  • Persisted validated connection state owns integrations, without a caller-supplied bypass. Runtime exit cleanup re-reads ownership while preserving the existing environment-cleanup decision. Same-version builds can differ, so compatibility uses an explicit preservation contract rather than a version guess; native client identity supplies its established signal contract.
  • Health is credential-free. Orphan home ownership is established before authenticated capability probing; proof and connected-stop POST use direct TCP without environment-proxy or redirect forwarding. Capability JSON is bounded to 4 KiB under a shared two-second proof deadline; the existing transport also caps wire buffering.
  • Necessary scope exceptions: the contradictory src/cli/registry.ts summary and two Stop descriptions in structure/gui-and-management-api.md; actual-route registration in src/server/management/route-registry.ts; stop metadata in src/cli/capabilities-observe-system.ts; tests/cli/cli-capabilities.test.ts; owning structure/cli-management.md; and two generated operating-reference files. These register actual GET/POST calls and remove existing POST debt. No new exemption, debt entry, test-layout registration, dependency, workflow or release change.
  • Linux without a usable user-systemd query retains the conservative refusal: no target plus unknown manager is not proven absence. Existing no-target unknown-manager coverage passed in the current changed suite; no platform bypass or shared-probe change was added. This explicitly answers discussion_r4365855192.
  • CodeRabbit now marks sibling-summary and stale-Link-PID findings addressed; both resolved threads and current code were verified. Its generic 47.62% docstring warning remains an observed warning: repository configuration and required-check policy define no 80% gate, and it names no concrete missing lifecycle contract. No coverage-only code amendment was made; the rationale is recorded in the review ledger.
  • Manager-approved Git recovery reset only this worktree after all 12,886 preserved tracked blobs were verified. Other worktrees were not reset or pruned; unprovable prior config values were left unchanged. The host-hook reproduction remains ignored scratch material for the manager's separate issue.

Security summary

  • The capability endpoint adds read-only schema/PID/preservation fields behind existing authentication and origin gates. Existing service ownership, Windows respawn, self-unload and desktop supervision refusals remain ahead of accepted teardown.
  • No caller-supplied ownership override or credential logging/serialization. Direct transport prevents proxy interception of proof and authenticated stop; bounded parsing and unknown observations fail closed. Fresh independent C4 source review is PASS on the exact head. Maintainer review and merge decisions remain separate.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults.
  • Exact-head lane=all CI and required GitHub checks have completed successfully.

Walkthrough

The CLI and stop endpoint now preserve connection-owned Codex routing, the model catalog, and Grok configuration when stopping a connected client. Status output provides connected clients with native-routing and dead-proxy guidance. Lifecycle documentation describes the updated stop and start behavior.

Changes: Connected-client lifecycle

Layer / File(s) Summary
Stop ownership and capability checks
src/server/stop-teardown.ts, src/server/management-api.ts, tests/service/stop-deferred-teardown.test.ts, structure/gui-and-management-api.md, structure/runtime.md
The stop API exposes connected-client ownership capabilities. Server teardown returns not-owned for a connected client before receipt deferral or integration restoration. Tests cover the capability response, retained receipts, and the contrasting unconnected hub-server behavior.
Connected-client stop preflight and preservation
src/cli/stop-restore.ts, src/cli/index.ts, src/cli/registry.ts, tests/cli/cli-dispatch.test.ts, tests/fixtures/parent-stop-runner.ts, tests/providers/xai/grok-lifecycle.test.ts, tests/service/stop-deferred-teardown.test.ts, docs-site/src/content/docs/guides/remote-link.md, docs-site/src/content/docs/*/reference/cli/lifecycle.md, structure/runtime.md
The CLI checks connected-client stop support before stop actions and avoids shared-state restoration for connected clients. Tests cover hub clients, Remote Link Children, probe failures, repeated stops, and inactive-runtime checks. Documentation describes preserved integrations and stop, start, disconnect, and sync behavior.
Connected-client status guidance
src/cli/status.ts, src/cli/index.ts, tests/service/autostart-health.test.ts
Status warnings use connection and service details to guide connected clients with native Codex routing. Dead-proxy advice adds a sync reminder for connected clients. Tests cover connected-client and standalone output.
Stop capability discovery and command reference
src/cli/capabilities-observe-system.ts, src/server/management/route-registry.ts, tests/cli/cli-capabilities.test.ts, skills/ocx/references/*, structure/cli-management.md
The stop capability declaration includes GET and POST /api/stop, JSON output, behavior, and exit codes. The route registry, generated reference indexes, and tests record the command and routes.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title accurately identifies the main changes: connected-client integrations remain preserved across ocx stop, and status guidance uses ocx sync --restart-codex. It is specific, concise, and directly matches the implementation and documentation updates.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #7563 has two coding requirements. First, Remote Link Child status guidance must recommend ocx sync --restart-codex for native Codex routing and must name a start command when the service is down. src/cli/status.ts implements this behavior for connected hub and Remote Link clients. tests/service/autostart-health.test.ts covers hub, Child, service-installed, service-down, standalone, native-routing, and dead-proxy cases. Second, ocx stop and ocx start must preserve integrations removed by stop. src/cli/stop-restore.ts adds connected-client preservation, runtime identity checks, capability checks, manager and endpoint checks, direct local stop transport, repeated-stop handling, and exit-cleanup handling. src/server/stop-teardown.ts gives connected-client ownership precedence over receipt deferral and shared restoration. src/server/management-api.ts and src/server/management/route-registry.ts expose the read-only stop capability used by the preflight. tests/service/stop-deferred-teardown.test.ts, tests/cli/cli-stop-json.test.ts, tests/cli/cli-dispatch.test.ts, tests/providers/xai/grok-lifecycle.test.ts, and tests/fixtures/parent-stop-runner.ts cover API stop, signal cleanup, repeated stops, unsupported or ambiguous runtimes, truthful JSON, and preserved Grok/Codex state. The reported focused tests passed. No coding requirement in #7563 remains unmet.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within issue #7563. Status changes in src/cli/status.ts and tests/service/autostart-health.test.ts implement the required Remote Link guidance. Stop and teardown changes in src/cli/stop-restore.ts, src/cli/index.ts, src/server/stop-teardown.ts, and src/server/management-api.ts implement preservation and refusal safety. The capability declaration in src/cli/capabilities-observe-system.ts, route registration in src/server/management/route-registry.ts, related tests, and generated references in skills/ocx/references/01_management_surface.md, skills/ocx/references/01_surface_lifecycle.md, and structure/cli-management.md document and register the new read-only preflight required by that implementation. src/cli/registry.ts, structure/gui-and-management-api.md, structure/runtime.md, the Remote Link guide, and the Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Simplified Chinese lifecycle pages document the same stop/start contract. No unrelated feature, dependency, workflow, release, or cleanup change is established by the reviewed change summary.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 47.62% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 21 functions across 14 files. (3 skipped: 3 unsupported.)

Make the down-proxy warning conditional on Codex routing.

When a connected client has native routing and its proxy is down, statusUnusedProxyLines says Codex requests go to OpenAI. Line 1762 then says those requests will fail with connection errors. Do not claim a proxy connection failure for Codex when status.json.startup.routingKind === "native". Keep the proxy recovery and sync guidance.

The connected-client stop/status paths look consistent at 82067bfe2951f2e932df89ffce949df10c50766b: skip the shared restore and pending teardown claim, preserve connection-owned integrations, and name sync rather than start when routing is already native. Independent capped Linux/Bun 1.4.3 focused stop/status controls passed (see the exact command below); all stop/service/config effects in the subprocess fixture are mocked, so no live ocx stop/sync/restart was executed.

One required documentation fix remains: this ten-file diff updates no structure document. structure/cli-management.md:3 explicitly delegates startup/stop/service contracts to structure/runtime.md. That owning runtime contract still says normal shutdown restores native Codex and names only siblings as the shared-teardown exception (around line 178), and the CLI command inventory still describes stop as restoring native Codex. Please add the connected hub/Link client exception, the disconnect ownership and the fact that start does not re-inject its routing. Review the mapped remote-link/client contracts for the same distinction. The public lifecycle/remote-link guide updates are useful, but do not replace the required maintainer contract update.

Command: bun test tests/service/stop-deferred-teardown.test.ts tests/service/autostart-health.test.ts -t 'client stop leaves|connected client|ocx status takes|dead-proxy restore'. Local project typecheck/full-suite and native client flows were not repeated. This request is for the stale owning contract, not an additional runtime rewrite or permission to run live lifecycle commands.

Keep server teardown behind persisted connection ownership and report connected stops as skipped. Align lifecycle contracts, CLI inventory and existing translations.

Prepared the requested owning-contract documentation update locally in 8808c504a3: structure/runtime.md now documents connected hub/Link client preservation, disconnect ownership, start without routing re-injection, and server-side not-owned precedence. Its CLI lifecycle inventory, the CLI registry stop summary, and the API Stop inventory row now agree. The runtime doc remains at 600 lines; src/cli/index.ts is 1,994 lines. Japanese, Korean, Russian and Simplified Chinese lifecycle pages include the connected-client exception.

The successful server stop path needed the same ownership check: performStopTeardown now reads validated persisted connected-client state before receipt deferral/restoration, preserving existing receipts without adding a caller bypass. The hub/link successful-stop regressions execute the real server teardown and assert no native/Grok restore calls, no receipt claim, and JSON sharedTeardown: "skipped". The original 404 control remains.

On current head 5beec38db83079899b38e1cf58eb458c309eeb79, focused validation is 311 pass / 0 fail, changed-mode validation is 9,265 pass / 31 skip / 0 fail, source typecheck/privacy/structure pass, and the docs build passes. A fresh independent gpt-6.1-sol code/security review is PASS with no unresolved findings. Publication is blocked by a local pre-push execution failure: the remote PR head remains 82067bf, so these prepared changes are not yet visible in its Files tab. The preserved local branch is lane/l4-link-lifecycle-delivery; manager push required. The full-suite attempt was interrupted and exact-head CI was not run. The description now distinguishes completed local evidence from missing publication/CI. No live user-installation lifecycle commands were run.

Published the prepared fix at 5beec38db83079899b38e1cf58eb458c309eeb79. The owning runtime contract, CLI command summary, API Stop inventory and lifecycle translations now include connected-client ownership, disconnect teardown and start without routing re-injection. The successful hub/link server-stop regressions and truthful JSON reporting are included.

Local required checks and fresh independent sol review passed as recorded in Verification. The manager approved recovery of this worktree and skipping the unsafe host-local pre-push hook for publication; this exception and the interrupted full-suite attempt are recorded explicitly. Exact-head lane=all CI is now run 40054038851; final conclusion is pending.

Qualify the sidebar Stop endpoint description.

Line 289 now documents that POST /api/stop preserves connected-client integrations and returns sharedTeardown: "not-owned". Line 450 still says the sidebar’s endpoint restores native Codex without an exception. State that restoration applies to an ordinary owner, not a connected client or sibling. Require a PID-bound client identity or explicit shutdown preservation capability before manager mutation and recheck before POST or kill. Preserve fresh connection ownership in ordinary runtime exit cleanup, and correct stale-Link health guidance and remaining lifecycle prose.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Validate connected-client ownership before stopping the service.

A direct POST /api/stop can proceed for a connected client. The route calls stopServiceIfInstalledDetailed() before performStopTeardown(...), and performStopTeardown(...) is the first operation that reads connected-client ownership. Therefore, the route can stop an installed service before it validates whether the connected client owns the preservation state.

Move the connected-client ownership validation, or an equivalent preflight that enforces the same contract, before stopServiceIfInstalledDetailed(). This is the required ordering correction.

Checked the updated merge-risk summary against current head dcbc91e3e661d921342b0f6423e1580a4dcb26a5. The sentence saying a connected-client stop can stop the installed service before validating support does not match the current control flow:

  • src/cli/index.ts:1093 awaits the connected-client preflight and returns a refusal before either manager path.
  • The guarded manager callback is entered at line 1173; the ordinary service-stop call is at line 1185. Both follow that preflight. A fresh per-target assertion also runs before POST/kill.
  • tests/service/stop-deferred-teardown.test.ts:182–189 covers tracked, orphan-discovered and guarded targets with a manager that would cascade process termination. Unsupported runtimes produce zero service-stop calls, signals, native/Grok restores or receipt clears. All three passed in the current-head changed suite (29,399 pass / 39 skip / 0 fail).

The fresh independent gpt-6.1-sol/high review inspected all 25 files and separately confirmed pre-manager validation. The specific Linux unknown-manager comment is answered in #7564 (comment): unknown manager state intentionally refuses, and its existing no-target regression passed. No further code changes are needed for these points. Exact-head lane=all CI remains queued and the PR remains draft; local validation is not a CI-success claim.

Integration evidence for exact head 2f99137 (lane L4; dev merge on top of the reviewed dcbc91e to remove an overlap in structure/runtime.md with #7543):

  • Independent review: fresh gpt-6.1-sol PASS on 25 changed files, 0 open findings; CodeRabbit inline threads marked fixed.
  • @Ingwannu's change request (82067bf) asked for the owning maintainer contract update. It is now in the PR: structure/runtime.md states that standalone shutdown restores native Codex while connected hub clients and Remote Link Children preserve connection-owned routing, catalog and Grok config across ocx stop/start, that disconnect owns their teardown and start does not re-inject routing, and the src/cli/index.ts command-inventory row says the same; structure/cli-management.md and structure/gui-and-management-api.md describe the read-only GET /api/stop preflight. Treating the request as resolved; please re-open if anything is still missing.
  • Lane verification: 5 core regressions red before and green after; focused 311/0; test:changed 29399 pass / 39 skip / 0 fail; typecheck, privacy, structure, docs build exit 0.
  • Merged tree (this Mac): skill:surface:check current; stop/status/capability suites (skill-ocx, cli-capabilities, cli-dispatch, stop-deferred-teardown, autostart-health) 234 pass / 0 fail.
  • The local pre-push hook on macmini-ts was skipped for the lane push (host-local, not repository policy) after it leaked GIT_* into fixtures; recorded in the PR Verification section.
  • Closes Remote Link Child: status suggests ocx start; the fix is ocx sync --restart-codex, and ocx stop drops the Grok block #7563.

Static merge simulation on current dev e9df82c (this Mac): dev=e9df82cb5f2d67c099776f813c2500d4b47702ca base=e9df82cb5f2d67c099776f813c2500d4b47702ca pr_files= 25 overlap=[]; merge clean; install exit=0; gui install exit=0; tsc exit=0; tsc doctor exit=0; structure:check exit=0; privacy:scan exit=0; layout+ratchet guards exit=0 52 pass 0 fail ;

Merged by the triage manager as maintainer integration (MAINTAINERS.md, dev only) under the owner's static-judgment rule while GitHub Actions is degraded; dev push CI will be checked when Actions recovers.
