A Java client-server help queue system built for a software engineering course project. The application allowed students in a lab environment to request help from an instructor, while an administrator/display interface managed and showed the active queue.
- Student client for submitting and canceling help requests
- Server subsystem for managing active queue state
- Display subsystem for showing current help requests
- Administrator GUI for clearing the queue and canceling requests
- JDBC/Oracle database logging for help and cancellation events
- Course/lab session tracking for associating help requests with class sections
- Java
- Java GUI
- Client-server socket communication
- JDBC
- Oracle Database
- Git/GitLab
Students could submit or cancel help requests from their workstation.
Administrators could manage the help queue, cancel requests, and perform queue initialization tasks.
The display subsystem showed the current help queue for instructors and students.
This project was originally developed as a team project for CS 355. The system was designed for a computer lab help queue, where students could request assistance from lab workstations and instructors could monitor and manage the queue.
- Designing a multi-component client-server application
- Using Java to coordinate GUI, server, and database functionality
- Logging application events to a relational database
- Working with Scrum-style sprint planning and team development
