If you create a new entry and you declare a title that contains a > character, and then an exe file (otherwise the error message is different) and then try to save it, a cryptic error message appears:

If you rename an existing entry with a title that contains a > character, it works.

This is because when creating a new menu, the generated configuration JSON file name by default uses the title, and file names can't contain unsupported characters. So you can save it first using supported characters, and then change the title afterward.

This was an early requirement. Later, the file name became unimportant, and in the future, I might add automatic removal of unsupported characters for file names.
