Overview

Contractor is a self-hosted application for generating professional business documents. The AI chat assistant helps you draft quotes (הצעת מחיר), contracts (חוזה עבודה), and work orders (הזמנת עבודה) in both Hebrew and English.

Quick Start

npm run setup
npm start

The setup script installs dependencies, configures your AI provider, and initializes the clause database. Then open http://localhost:6831 in your browser.

Prerequisites

• Node.js 20 or later
• npm or yarn

AI Provider Setup (Optional)

The app works with multiple AI providers. Configure in Settings (gear icon) at runtime:

Anthropic (Default)

• Get an API key from console.anthropic.com
• Model: claude-haiku-4-5-20251001 (recommended)

OpenAI

• Get an API key from platform.openai.com
• Model: gpt-4o-mini (recommended)

OpenRouter

• Get an API key from openrouter.ai
• Model: any slug, e.g. anthropic/claude-3.5-sonnet

Claude Code OAuth (No API key)

• If you have Claude Code CLI installed
• Run claude login in your terminal
• Enable in Settings → Use Claude Code OAuth

Building Your Knowledge Base

The most powerful feature is the clause database. Here's how to populate it:

1. Collect reference documents — Gather your existing contracts, quotes, or work orders in a folder
2. Access learn panel — In the left sidebar, click the docs icon to open the documents panel
3. Upload references — Use "Learn from References" (למידה ממסמכי עזר) to upload your documents
4. AI extraction — The system automatically extracts clauses, templates, and payment patterns
5. Use smart recommendations — When creating new documents, the AI suggests relevant clauses based on what it learned

Each document you analyze strengthens the AI's understanding of your business terms and legal language. The clause database is stored in knowledge/clauses-db.json and grows with every reference document processed.

Settings are stored in data/user-profile.json and can be edited via the UI or directly:

Building an Executable

Contractor can be packaged as a standalone executable for distribution:

Executables are built into dist/executables/ and include all assets, fonts, and the clause database.
