Summary

  • teach the supervisor to publish a WhatsApp-selected Codex TUI's real rollout UUID, rather than letting the bridge send the agent-box session name to codex queue --thread
  • cover both the registry-selected session and the bridge's effective target, and reuse a subscribed Remote Control task's durable wake UUID when available
  • write the bridge mapping atomically with private permissions, strict session/UUID validation, and preservation of unrelated registrations
  • display WhatsApp's eight-character pairing code as AAAA-AAAA while copying the raw eight characters
  • document which Codex sessions are registered automatically and when Remote Control still needs explicit registration

The Safari contact picker can still substitute a national number (for example, remove +1). This remains a validation error because inferring a country code would silently pair the wrong number for users outside that numbering plan.

Verification

  • bash tests/test-codex-registered-thread.sh modules/src/supervisor.sh
  • python3 tests/test-connect-card.py
  • python3 tests/test_agentbox.py
  • nix build -L --keep-going .#ci-native
  • git diff --check
  • Azure hotpatch on 52-234-30-30.sslip.io: registered the selected session's discovered rollout UUID; all three queued messages reached the real Codex thread, pending delivery fell to zero, and all three replies reached sent

I also prototyped the documented Codex SessionStart hook path first. Codex 0.161 timed it out before the command body ran, matching openai/codex#42279, so this change does not depend on that lifecycle hook.

📝 Walkthrough

The supervisor now discovers eligible Codex thread IDs and publishes WhatsApp session mappings. Pairing cards display qualifying codes in XXXX-XXXX form while retaining the unformatted code for copying.

Changes: Codex Thread Registration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Validate and publish thread mappings
modules/src/supervisor.sh, modules/agent-box.nix, tests/golden/vm/payloads/agent-box-supervisor/bin/agent-box-supervisor, tests/test-codex-registered-thread.sh
The publisher validates session names and UUIDs, then atomically updates codex-threads.json with the thread, timestamp, and source. Tests check permissions, preservation of other entries, and rejected inputs.
Discover and synchronize eligible sessions
modules/src/supervisor.sh, modules/agent-box.nix, tests/golden/vm/payloads/agent-box-supervisor/bin/agent-box-supervisor, tests/test-codex-registered-thread.sh, modules/src/default-agents.md, tests/golden/*/etc/agent-box-guides/*, tests/native/expected/etc/agent-box-guides/*
The supervisor scans eligible sessions when WhatsApp is ready, resolves subscribed Remote Control sessions from wake targets and other sessions from rollouts, and publishes mappings during reconciliation. Guidance and tests describe automatic and manual registration cases.

Pairing Code Display

Layer / File(s) Summary
Format pairing codes for display
modules/agent-box.nix, modules/src/settings-daemon.py, tests/golden/web/payloads/agent-box-settings/bin/agent-box-settings, tests/test-connect-card.py
The pairing card inserts a hyphen after the fourth character of qualifying eight-character codes. The copy value remains unformatted.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 6caa8

The supervisor may overwrite a manually registered Remote Control task with an older subscribed task every 10 seconds, sending WhatsApp messages to the wrong task. Resolve this before merging.
