The root heads a vertical line; each top-level topic is a row header on it, its children are the cells of the row side by side, and a cell's descendants stack beneath it. A row is as tall as its tallest stack. XMind's spreadsheet.row maps to it instead of opening as the column matrix; the arrow keys follow the rows and cells.
