A collection of AI recruiting skills — reusable instruction sets that give AI tools specialist-level knowledge for specific recruiting disciplines.
Built and open-sourced by @benmonopoli.
A skill is a reusable instruction set that teaches an AI tool how to perform a specific task at a specialist level. Instead of writing a new prompt every time, you define the expertise once and load it whenever you need it.
From that point the AI isn't working from general knowledge — it's working from a structured, practitioner-level understanding of that discipline. The difference in output quality is significant. A sourcing skill doesn't just write a Boolean string — it knows the role variants experienced recruiters search for, the platforms where the best candidates actually spend time, and the signals that indicate genuine seniority versus surface-level experience.
Skills are currently optimised for Claude by Anthropic, but the structure and patterns can be adapted for other AI platforms.

These skills are designed for use with Claude by Anthropic — specifically Claude Code, Anthropic's CLI tool, and Claude Cowork, Anthropic's cloud-based collaborative workspace. Both support loading skills directly.
If you're using Claude Code, run these two commands:
/plugin marketplace add benmonopoli/open-recruit
/plugin install open-recruit@benmonopoli
Installing the plugin loads two things:
1. Automatic skill detection
A routing engine (CLAUDE.md) that reads your request, identifies the relevant discipline, and applies the appropriate skill automatically — no manual selection needed. Ask about sourcing a senior ML engineer and it applies the ML engineering hiring skill and the relevant sourcing skills together. Ask about screening a CSM candidate and it switches to the customer success skill.
2. Five slash commands for common workflows
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/open-recruit:source [role] |
Sourcing strings and platform strategy for a specific role |
/open-recruit:screen [role + candidate] |
Structured T1/T2/T3 assessment with a hire/pass recommendation |
/open-recruit:jd [role] |
Job description drafted against discipline-specific criteria |
/open-recruit:interview [role] |
Interview question bank with evaluation signals and follow-ups |
/open-recruit:outreach [role + context] |
InMail, short outreach, and follow-up message for a specific role |
Example:
/open-recruit:source Senior Backend Engineer, distributed systems focus
/open-recruit:screen Senior Backend Engineer — [paste LinkedIn profile]
/open-recruit:outreach Senior Backend Engineer — candidate has strong Go and Kafka experience
If you use Claude.ai, ChatGPT, or any other AI tool — no installation needed:
- Browse the
skills/folder and find the skill you want - Open the
SKILL.mdfile and copy the full contents - Paste it at the start of your conversation as context
- Sourcing a candidate? Try
linkedin-recruiting,github-sourcing, orweb-sourcing - Hiring for a specific role? Find the relevant discipline under
tech-hiring/,marketing-hiring/, orsales-hiring/ - Writing JDs or outreach? Try
ai-recruiting-prompts
The library covers what I hire for — there are plenty of disciplines it doesn't touch. If you've built skills that work for your recruiting context, contributions are welcome.
The best skills are built the same way these were — by synthesising the best available knowledge for that discipline into a reusable format, not just personal opinion. If you've hired in an area not covered here and want to contribute, open a pull request or drop me a message.
To add a skill:
- Create a folder under the appropriate category in
skills/ - Add a
SKILL.mdfile with your skill's instructions - Include a
nameanddescriptionat the top of the file - Open a pull request with a short description of what the skill does and how you've used it
If you've built something useful in a different format or for a different platform, open an issue and let's figure out how it fits.
MIT — use it, build on it, share what you make.
