FYI @luispadron this template will create the content of the bazel-starters/apple GH repo
FYI @cgrindel in case I've misused Swift Package Manager or mislead developers on the best way to get started.
FYI @aaronsky for naming things

@alexeagle alexeagle force-pushed the apple branch 2 times, most recently from 5301703 to 95ad40b Compare January 13, 2026 05:35

@alexeagle Is it maybe this issue? https://github.com/bazelbuild/apple_support?tab=readme-ov-file#bazel-7-setup (e.g. apple_support must go above rules_cc).

Is there a way to see the final contents of the starter project?

Yeah you can expand the "Scaffold new app" in the log, I dump all the file contents there.

Ah nice, yeah it looks like apple_support is below rules_cc which is maybe leading to that toolchain issue

I switched the order of those two, same error I think:

(01:40:10) ERROR: /home/runner/work/aspect-workflows-template/aspect-workflows-template/scaffold_test_6572/app/BUILD:9:16: While resolving toolchains for target //app:iOSApp (1538463): No matching toolchains found for types:
  @@bazel_tools//tools/cpp:toolchain_type
To debug, rerun with --toolchain_resolution_debug='@@bazel_tools//tools/cpp:toolchain_type'
