I'm Dustin, based in Henderson, NV. I run the IT department for a company of 1,100+ employees and growing. I started there seven years ago as an entry-level tech, back when there was no infrastructure in place, and built the department from the ground up. My world is enterprise networking, servers and business continuity, at work and at home.
At home that means a homelab that's basically a small datacenter. My TrueNAS servers host my sites and apps, and Home Assistant runs the house.
I'm not a developer. I direct AI agents: I decide what gets built, how it should work and look, and when it's ready to ship, and the agents write the code. It's been the most fun I've ever had learning, and it means I can build and ship useful software that used to be out of reach. The only real limit now is what I can come up with.
VagueDustin Enterprises is the name I put on what comes out of that, in navy and gold.
- FATE: a Markdown viewer and text editor for Windows and Linux, with math and Mermaid diagram support.
- Don't Leave Updates To Fate: checks every package manager on a Windows PC (winget, Chocolatey, Scoop, npm, pip and more) and updates whatever has fallen behind.
- Fate Takes You Home: Home Assistant in the Windows tray. Your lights, scenes and automations, one click from the taskbar.
- Fate Engine: an FPS unlocker and graphics tuner for Arknights: Endfield on Windows. The comparison page shows the DLSS 5 difference.
- FATE Chrome theme: navy and gold for your browser, available on the Chrome Web Store.
- Rainmeter × Home Assistant: two desktop skins, one for what's playing and one for a clock, climate and presence board. Home Assistant feeds them, so no access token sits on the desktop.
ha-unifiplay, the Home Assistant integration for UniFi Play devices like the PowerAmp and In-Wall speakers. I've had 9 pull requests merged:
- Fixed mute so it restores the previous volume, cover art that stopped updating after the first track, and a progress bar that never moved.
- Fixed a release (v1.2.0) that couldn't connect to devices at all.
- Mapped out the rest of the device protocol (streaming service, playlists, alarms, announcements) and added the controls it was missing: announcements, alarms, quiet hours and a graphic EQ.
- Documented how the write actions behave, what the protocol can't do, and how EQ presets persist.
Anime has been a huge part of my life for 20 years. It started with Adult Swim in 2006, I was following seasonal releases online by 2009, and I've tracked everything on MyAnimeList since 2010: 581 titles, 6,200+ episodes and over 105 days of watch time. My all-time favorites are Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Code Geass R2, Steins;Gate, Delicious in Dungeon and Mushoku Tensei, and Frieren and Witch Hat Atelier are recent 10s.
I'm a massive Arknights fan and a whale in both Arknights and Arknights: Endfield, which is how Fate Engine came to exist. My main competitive game is Marvel Rivals, where I'm ranked Grandmaster 1 / Celestial.
