The next desktop release is the first with accounts, cloud sync, sharing, live editing and replays, so it ships as 5.0.0. Dara chose the number on 2026-10-13. This PR names the version and adds the player-facing notes the What's new dialog and the updater show.

Version

  • pubspec.yaml: 4.6.3+104 becomes 5.0.0+104, and msix_version becomes 5.0.0.0.
  • Settings.versionName: 5.0.0.
  • The build number stays 104. Main moved to 104 for the Paranoia migration (Bring cloud sync and the web beta into main #234), and desktop never shipped it (4.6.3 is 103). So no saved strategy or .ica gets a newer stamp than it already would. I didn't use scripts/bump_version.ps1, because it always adds one to the build number.

Release notes (release/metadata/5.0.0+104.json)

Title: "5.0.0: Icarus goes online". It has 12 features and 3 fixes, drawn from the PRs merged since 4.6.3 (#179–#296):

  • sign-in and sync
  • Move to cloud
  • share links and people
  • live cursors and outlines
  • Replays and Capture, .vrf from anywhere, Keep and Remove
  • Recently deleted
  • lineup Edit placement and copying
  • turning abilities with X
  • theme profile codes and Lotus Moss
  • backups that include the cloud
  • the welcome tour
  • view cones on Riot's minimap lines
  • Paranoia and Steel Garden sizes
  • text and image placement on defense
  • smoother dragging

Not visible early: the dialog reads the published updater manifest (Settings.desktopUpdaterArchiveUrl), not main. So 4.6.3 users won't see these notes until the release is published.

Check before release day

Updated on Oct 18 (e63de26)

Main merged in (it was 4 days behind), plus the work merged since the notes were first written (#304–#329):

Updated later on Oct 18 (03cc27e, 68bb7eb)

  • New: "Save screenshots and videos with a transparent background" (#335, #336 moved the choice to the camera button, #337 added transparent .mov video export).
  • Main merged in through #338 and #339 (offline page-delete and page-open wording fixes, no line needed).

Installer pass on Dara's PC (Oct 18)

Built an unsigned 5.0.0+104 installer locally from this branch with the release script's build steps (the stable script refuses to run off main; signing happens in the workflow). Dara's 4.6.1 install was taken to the published 4.6.3 installer (checksum checked) and launched once, after a full backup in E:\w\inst-pass\backup. Then the 5.0.0 installer went over it:

  • The library probe CI uses read the real library before and after: same strategies, pages and items, data version 103 to 104.
  • 5.0.0 opens on the library with the welcome tour. Opening a .vrf from Explorer plays the replay, and an .ica imports. icarus:// points at the installed exe. The update check sees the stable channel.
  • Signed in as the test account, a throwaway strategy was moved to the cloud, opened intact from the cloud, and deleted.
  • Not covered: Authenticode signing (the workflow signs, then runs its own 4.6.3 to 5.0.0 upgrade test before publishing).

Checks

  • flutter test test/release_notes_test.dart test/update_checker_test.dart test/cloud_build_config_test.dart passes (27 tests, rerun on 68bb7eb). scripts/test_release_safety.ps1 passes on 68bb7eb.
  • scripts/test_release_safety.ps1 passes.
  • I didn't see the notes in the running app: they appear only once the release manifest is published.

ci: test

Summary by CodeRabbit

Summary

  • New Features
    • Added account sign-in, cloud syncing and sharing, live collaboration, and offline editing of cloud strategies.
    • Added replay viewing and management, strategy export and screenshot options, page recovery, lineup and map updates, and a welcome tour.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Fixed issues with view cones, Corrode, abilities, resizing, dragging, and gameplay layouts.
  • Release
    • Updated the version to 5.0.0 (build 104).

Build 104 is already this release's data version (raised for the
Paranoia migration, never shipped to desktop), so only the version
name moves: 4.6.3+104 becomes 5.0.0+104, msix 5.0.0.0.
