Problem
The toolkit has only ever run on macOS. refkit shoot and refkit diff call Chrome at a fixed path (tools/refkit.py:45, /Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome). Everything else in the toolkit is portable Python, and the localhost app is a browser plus a loopback server, so Linux is one small step away.
Proposal
- Browser discovery in
refkit: look for Chrome, Chromium and Edge on PATH and in the usual per-OS locations, macOS included, and allow an override by environment variable. Fail with the list of places searched when none is found.
- Run the localhost app and the tap formula through on Ubuntu (Homebrew on Linux installs the same formula) and fix what breaks.
- Note Linux in the README install table.
Out of scope
Windows. sp-canvas prefers tmux and spawns the agent CLIs the POSIX way; claude and codex install as .cmd shims there. That is the desktop shell issue.
Context
Step 5 of the sequence in docs/2026-09-19-standalone-app-and-install.md. Small audience, small change; do it right after the localhost app.
Sequence
#106 bundle → #114 curl installer → #108 localhost app → #109 Homebrew tap → #110 Linux → #111 desktop shell (only on demand). No PyPI: the toolkit installs from the release tag's tarball (#subdirectory=tools), so there is no second registry to maintain.
