[None][fix] DeepSeek-V3.2 encoder: restore the blank lines of the tools preamble - #21055
tensorrt_llm/tokenizer/deepseek_v32/encoding.py is a copy of DeepSeek-V3.2's own prompt encoder (encoding/encoding_dsv32.py in the checkpoint). It says so in its header. The copy dropped the seven empty lines inside TOOLS_SYSTEM_TEMPLATE, the preamble rendered for every request with tools:
after ## Tools;
after each example </|DSML|function_calls>;
after the "String and scalar..." and "If the thinking_mode..." lines;
after </function_results>;
after the thinking line.
So every request with tools served with --custom_tokenizer deepseek_v32 rendered a preamble the checkpoint was not trained on. Its token ids differ from the checkpoint's from the ninth token on. Prompts without tools are unaffected.
Upstream has only one revision of the encoder, and it has those lines. This is a copying slip, not a second version of the format. DeepSeek-V3.2-Exp uses its own chat template and does not use this encoder. The affected models are the ones served with this encoder:
deepseek-ai/DeepSeek-V3.2;
deepseek-ai/DeepSeek-V3.2-Speciale;
nvidia/DeepSeek-V3.2-NVFP4.
The template is now copied verbatim. Nothing else changes.
Test Coverage
tests/unittest/llmapi/test_deepseek_v32_encoding.py (new, CPU, added to l0_cpu.yml):
test_tools_preamble_keeps_its_blank_lines needs no checkpoint.
test_matches_the_checkpoint_golden_prompts runs the checkpoint's own encoder test for all three golden prompts: tools on the first message, thinking mode. It needs the checkpoint's encoding/ directory under LLM_MODELS_ROOT (DeepSeek-V3.2-hf) and is skipped without it.
Without this change, all three golden prompts differ from the encoder's output, only at those lines.
With it, all three are equal.

TOOLS_SYSTEM_TEMPLATE restores the missing blank lines in the DeepSeek-V3.2 tools preamble. This changes rendered tool-enabled prompts without changing the encoder API. The change is limited to the template, its CPU tests, and the CPU test list. Test execution results were not supplied.
QA Engineer Review
The change adds tests/unittest/llmapi/test_deepseek_v32_encoding.py and lists it in tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_cpu.yml. test_tools_preamble_keeps_its_blank_lines checks the rendered preamble. The parameterized test_matches_the_checkpoint_golden_prompts compares three prompts with checkpoint golden files and skips when the checkpoint inputs are unavailable. Coverage: sufficient for verifying the template correction. Execution is unverified.
Per-File QA Perspective
tensorrt_llm/tokenizer/deepseek_v32/encoding.py: Verify that tool-enabled prompts contain the restored blank lines. The change affects template whitespace.
tests/unittest/llmapi/test_deepseek_v32_encoding.py: Covers preamble whitespace and three checkpoint golden prompts. The module is listed in the CPU CI list. No manual-QA list entry was found.
tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_cpu.yml: Adds the encoder test module to the CPU CI list.
…ls preamble
The vendored copy of DeepSeek-V3.2's prompt encoder dropped the seven empty
lines of TOOLS_SYSTEM_TEMPLATE that the checkpoint's own encoding_dsv32.py
has, so every request with tools rendered a preamble the checkpoint was not
trained on. The template is now copied verbatim, and a CPU test compares
the encoder with the checkpoint's three golden prompts when the checkpoint's
encoding/ directory is available.

Walkthrough
The DeepSeek-V3.2 tools preamble now includes additional blank lines. New CPU tests check the rendered preamble and compare encoded prompts with checkpoint golden files.

The prompt whitespace change is preserved through rendering and covered by registered tests, but the modified source file still needs the required NVIDIA header or an approved exception.

@coderabbitai On the outside-diff comment in review 5661097181 (NVIDIA header on deepseek_v32/encoding.py): not taken. The file is a verbatim copy of the encoder that ships with the DeepSeek-V3.2 checkpoint, as its first line says, and main carries it without an NVIDIA header. This PR only restores the blank lines the copy had lost, and it should stay a faithful copy of third-party code rather than gain an NVIDIA copyright notice.
