None: maintainer request (v1 parity: v1 shows the community/node selector after the walkthrough).

Type

feat

What changes and why

As in v1, the first run no longer ends at the walkthrough. Done or Skip now leads to a node choice (/choose-node) that shows v1's full operator disclaimer in an amber warning note, then every node of the registry with the same NodeCard as Settings → Choose a node, the global Mostro node first. All of it scrolls together, and the actions stay pinned at the bottom. "Use this node" activates the picked card, and Skip keeps the default (global) node. Either one completes the first run, arms the backup reminder and goes home.

The cards open already filled. While the walkthrough is on screen the app downloads the nodes' data in two passes. The first is the startup kind 38385 warm-up (fee, range, currencies, bond), which also waits for the relay handshakes, plus a kind 0 refresh for the names. The second is the open-order counts. Before this change nodeStatsProvider raced the warm-up: on a fresh install it would query a pool that was still connecting, get nothing, and mark every node as unreachable. It now waits for the first pass.

Affected flow

  • First run: walkthrough → node choice (new) → order book.
  • lib/features/walkthrough/screens/node_choice_screen.dart (new): the screen.
  • lib/features/walkthrough/providers/node_prefetch_provider.dart (new): firstRunNodePrefetchProvider. The walkthrough and the node choice both watch it, so the fetch in flight carries over from one to the other.
  • lib/features/walkthrough/screens/walkthrough_screen.dart: Done/Skip go to /choose-node and no longer mark the first run complete.
  • lib/core/app_routes.dart: new /choose-node route and a pure firstRunRedirect. While firstRunComplete == false, both first-run routes are allowed. Afterwards /choose-node redirects home, so a deep link cannot skip the Settings selector's trade-in-progress warning.
  • lib/features/settings/providers/mostro_nodes_provider.dart: refreshMetadataAfterPending(). The prefetch's post-warm-up kind 0 refresh runs after the one in flight instead of being coalesced into it.
  • lib/features/settings/widgets/node_card.dart: the name/trusted-badge row is a Wrap, so the badge moves under the name instead of overflowing a 320 dp card at 2x text in German.
  • lib/features/settings/providers/node_stats_provider.dart: new nodeInfoWarmUpProvider, which app_bootstrap.dart overrides with the warm-up it already started. nodeStatsProvider awaits it. cachedNodeStatsProvider re-reads the cache when it settles.
  • lib/features/settings/models/node_selector_rules.dart: withNodeFirst.
  • lib/features/settings/widgets/node_operator_disclaimer.dart (new): the amber note with the full operator disclaimer, shared by the node choice and Settings → Choose a node.
  • lib/features/settings/widgets/mostro_node_selector.dart: the full disclaimer is the first item of the list, in place of the two-line paraphrase at the foot. The sheet's top radius moves from 26 to AppRadius.modal (24, DS-SHP-1).
  • No Rust change, so no bridge regeneration.

Blast radius

  • Existing installs: firstRunComplete is already true, so the redirect never fires and they are never asked. No new persisted key.
  • Quitting on the node choice: the first run is not complete yet, so the next launch shows the walkthrough again, then the choice (stated in the spec).
  • Settings → Choose a node: it shares NodeCard. When a node's name and the trusted badge do not fit on one line, the badge now moves under the name instead of overflowing, or of truncating the name harder. The node_selector_9a goldens are regenerated in CI (update-goldens.yml). It also shares nodeStatsProvider. It now waits for the startup warm-up, which has long settled by the time anyone opens Settings. Opened in the first seconds after launch, it shows the cached settings and skeletons a little longer instead of empty "unreachable" rows.
  • Settings → Choose a node, disclaimer: the sheet now opens with v1's full operator disclaimer in the amber note, above the cards, and it scrolls with them. The two-line nodeDisclaimerShort at the foot is gone (same message, and two disclaimers would repeat each other), so the foot holds only "Add your own node".
  • Localization: 3 new keys (nodeChoiceSubtitle, nodeOperatorDisclaimer, nodeChoiceConfirm) in all 6 locales. The subtitle and disclaimer are v1's exact texts (mostroNodeDescription, communityDisclaimerBody). v1's fr/it/de copies had lost their diacritics (equipe, e', fuer); they are restored here, wording unchanged, except that the German disclaimer says du instead of v1's Sie, like every other German string. nodeDisclaimerShort is removed from the 6 locales, as nothing reads it any more.
  • Automation identifiers: new, and they reuse v1's names (onboarding.community.done, .skip, .card.<pubkey>), so a suite that drives v1's onboarding drives this one. The walkthrough ids are unchanged.
  • Wire: nothing new. The same kind 38385/38383/0 queries the selector already sends, only earlier.
  • Web: no platform code, and the flow is the same.

Platforms tested

Linux (widget tests, rendered screenshots). Not run end to end on a device yet (see Not covered).

Manual testing

Setup

flutter run -d android from this branch, debug, on a fresh install (uninstall first, or clear app data). Default relays, default node.

Steps

  1. User: open the app. Expected: the 6-slide walkthrough.
  2. User: wait about 10 s on slide 1, then tap Skip. Expected: "Choose a node" with the subtitle "Select the Mostro node you want to trade on". The global Mostro node is the first card, and the other trusted nodes follow with their fee, range, currencies and open orders already filled in (no skeletons). The amber operator disclaimer and a disabled "Use this node" sit below them.
  3. User: tap another node's card (e.g. Kmbalache). Expected: its radio fills and "Use this node" turns lime.
  4. User: tap "Use this node". Expected: the order book of that node, and the bell shows the backup reminder dot. Settings → Mostro node shows that node.
  5. User: quit and relaunch. Expected: straight to the order book, with no walkthrough and no node choice. On web, opening /app/#/choose-node by hand lands on the order book.
  6. Fresh install again: Skip on the walkthrough, then Skip on the node choice. Expected: the order book of the global Mostro node.
  7. Regression: Settings → Mostro node → tap another node. Expected: the sheet opens with the full amber operator disclaimer above the cards (no short disclaimer at the foot), switches node on the tap and closes, as on main.
  8. Upgrade: install main, finish the walkthrough, then install this branch over it. Expected: no node choice on launch.

Not covered

  • iOS and web not run.
  • These steps have not yet been run by hand on a device; the screenshots below are a widget render.

Screenshots

Node choice (es, dark, 390×844), rendered from the widget with the app fonts: before a pick, then with a card picked. To be attached.

Design-guide rules touched: DS-CMP-3 (one primary, OrderPrimaryButton), DS-CMP-20 and DS-CMP-6 (Skip is a 48 dp textSecondary link, as on the walkthrough), DS-COL-9 (amber for a warning, using the existing NodeSelectorPalette.warn* tokens; no new color), DS-CMP-18 (Scaffold on bg), DS-SPC-2. dart tool/design_check.dart: no breaks.

Automated tests

  • test/features/walkthrough/node_choice_screen_test.dart:
    • the default node is listed first even when the selector's order would put another node first;
    • the disclaimer is shown in full;
    • "Use this node" stays disabled until a card is picked;
    • a pick activates that node, completes the first run, arms the reminder and goes home;
    • Skip keeps the default node, and switches back to it when another node is active;
    • a failed switch stays on the screen with the first run still incomplete, and allows a retry.
  • test/features/walkthrough/node_prefetch_provider_test.dart:
    • nodeStatsProvider does not start before the kind 38385 warm-up settles;
    • the prefetch refreshes the node names once the warm-up has landed;
    • the prefetch keeps both passes alive while it is watched.
  • node_choice_screen_test.dart → fits 320 x 640 in German at 2x text (dark and light): no overflow, both actions can be hit, and a card can be reached and picked (DS-SPC-5).
  • test/core/first_run_redirect_test.dart: the first run's redirects, including /choose-node → home once the first run is complete.
  • test/features/settings/providers/mostro_nodes_provider_test.dart: refreshMetadata joins a refresh in flight, while refreshMetadataAfterPending runs again after it.
  • test/features/settings/models/node_selector_rules_test.dart: withNodeFirst.
  • test/features/settings/widgets/mostro_node_selector_test.dart → shows the operator disclaimer in full, above the nodes: in the list, before the first card.
  • test/features/walkthrough/walkthrough_screen_test.dart: Done and Skip lead to the node choice and no longer complete the first run.

flutter test (round 1): everything passes except the two node_selector_9a goldens, which the intentional NodeCard change invalidates. They are regenerated by update-goldens.yml on this branch.

After merging main (#405, #781) and adding the Settings disclaimer: flutter analyze clean, dart tool/design_check.dart no breaks, flutter test everything passes except the same two node_selector_9a goldens, which the disclaimer changes again; regenerated by update-goldens.yml.

Checklist

  • cd rust && cargo fmt --check && cargo clippy -- -D warnings && cargo test pass locally (no Rust change)
  • dart format --set-exit-if-changed ., flutter analyze and flutter test pass locally (flutter test summary line pasted under Automated tests)
  • Changed rust/src/api/ or an .arb: regenerated code committed in the same commit (CONTRIBUTING.md § Generated code)
  • New or changed user-facing text: every locale updated, no hardcoded strings
  • Changed an automation identifier: coordinated in the linked issue (docs/automation-contract.md) (new ids only, v1's names)
  • Protocol or transport change: impact on the daemon and other clients stated (none)
  • Behaviour or contract change: matching spec under specs/ or .specify/ updated (specs/004 US1, FR-003a/b)

Written with Claude Code: the screen, the providers, the tests and the spec change. Look harder at the route-to-route handoff of firstRunNodePrefetchProvider (autoDispose, kept alive by whichever first-run screen is mounted) and at nodeStatsProvider now awaiting nodeInfoWarmUpProvider.

As in v1, the first run ends with the choice of node: every node of the
registry as a node card, the default (global) node first, above the full
operator disclaimer of v1 (communityDisclaimerBody, in all six languages).
"Use this node" activates the picked card; Skip keeps the default node.
Either one completes the first run, arms the backup reminder and goes home.
Installs that already completed the first run are never asked.

The cards open filled: the walkthrough downloads the nodes' data in two
passes — the startup kind 38385 warm-up (which also waits for the relay
handshakes), then the open-order counts, which now wait for it instead of
racing a pool that is still connecting and calling every node unreachable.

Walkthrough

The first-run flow now sends users from the walkthrough to node choice. Node data is prefetched during the walkthrough. Users can select a registered node or skip to keep the default; either action completes first run.

- Send a user who already finished the first run away from /choose-node:
  a deep link must not switch nodes past the Settings selector's
  trade-in-progress warning. The redirect is now a pure, tested function.
- Refresh the node names after the registry's own fetch instead of being
  coalesced into it (refreshMetadataAfterPending): that fetch may have
  started before any relay was connected.
- Await the backup reminder before marking the first run complete, so a
  failed write is retried rather than lost.
- Scroll the title, the disclaimer and the cards together over pinned
  actions (DS-SPC-5), with a test at 320 x 640 in German at 2x text.
- NodeCard: the trusted badge moves under the name instead of overflowing
  a 320 dp card at large text (affects the Settings selector too; its
  goldens are regenerated in CI).

The node card's name row is touched by this PR, so the design check reads
its whole class: the badge's 9 sp label and 7 px padding were off the
scales (DS-TYP-4, DS-SPC-2). 10 sp and 8 px, as a status chip (DS-CMP-9).

A failed write of the backup reminder or the first-run flag rethrew from
a tap callback: an unhandled error and a silent screen. Log it, show a
localized retry message and keep both actions available, as a failed
node switch already does.

The Settings node selector carried a two-line paraphrase at its foot
(`nodeDisclaimerShort`), while the first run's node choice shows v1's full
operator disclaimer. Both now show the full text in the same amber note,
moved to a shared `NodeOperatorDisclaimer`. In Settings it is the first
item of the list, so it scrolls with the cards instead of taking the
foot's height from them at large text. The short key goes from the six
locales, as nothing reads it any more.

The node_selector_9a goldens change and are regenerated through
update-goldens.yml.

- Around line 640-652: Update the German `nodeOperatorDisclaimer` translation to
use informal “du” consistently, replacing the formal address while preserving
the disclaimer’s meaning. Make the change in `app_de.arb` and regenerate the
localization output.
