In this workflow, easyOMR provides a Word template document. Edit this document to mix the questions and response boxes to be later recognized by easyOMR. Grading is performed by using an Excel spreadsheet.
- Create a new, empty folder on your computer: this will be your easyOMR project folder.
- Run easyOMR, Open a project and select your folder.

- Click on the
Edit...button on the top right, and then on3) Mixed document, then onContinue.

- A custom Word template was created in the
templatefolder inside your project folder. While easyOMR does not directly support Word documents, it does support the PDF file format, and uses that instead.

- Use Word to edit the custom template. When done, export the file to PDF (either using Save As... and selecting the PDF file format, or printing your document using the Microsoft PDF virtual printer).

-
Back in easyOMR, the
Edit...button in theTemplatetab brings an editor where you can change the grouping of the boxes that create individual questions, if needed. -
When finished, print a copy for each student, let them pass the test, and scan the results. There is also a
scansfolder in your project folder: put all the scan files there. The supported file formats are: "bmp", "pbm", "pgm", "ppm", "sr", "ras", "jpeg", "jpg", "jpe", "jp2", "tiff", "tif", "png", and "pdf". -
Click on the scans tab, and the button

- After a while, the scans appear on the left side of the window. By default, only the problematic scans are displayed, but that can be changed by using the filters at the top of the window. The top-right toolbar enables defining the corners of the scan, which group/page it belongs to, change every ambiguous boxes (they are in blue) to either untick or tick, and save your corrections. You can also click on any box in the scanned image to toggle between ticked and unticked. Tip: you can also save your corrections by pressing Control+S, which also selects the next scan needing correction.

- When all scans are corrected, click on
Export, then onExport Excel.

- A
results.xlsxfile has been created in theexportfolder of your projet. In Excel, this worksheet contains three sheets:
Scanscontains the responses raw data.Correctionsallows grading the responses. For each question, all combinations met in the actual responses from the students are presented. You must provide the grading for each response.Points: based on your inputs from theCorrectionssheet, a grade is computed automatically for each student. If the grading system provided in this Excel file does not suit your needs, just keep the raw data and delete the other sheets, then implement whatever grading system you need.
