Tier two of effects. Preview and export read the same plan, as before.

Effects on any picture

• Blur, vignette, grain, shake and glitch.
• A blurred background behind pictures that don't fill the canvas.
• Hiding part of a picture by blurring, pixelating or blacking out a box (for faces, screens, number plates).
• Letterbox bars over the whole movie: 2.39, 2:1, 1.85 or 4:3.

Light leaks

• Three soft washes of light (warm, sun flare, cool) on the Colour shelf, built as see-through scenes.
• Scenes now support radial gradients, which the leaks use.

Words that come in a piece at a time

• Titles can bring in their words, letters or lines with fade, rise, pop, type or karaoke.
• A title's box stays put while its letters move.
• In export, each piece is a small picture moved by position expressions. Only pieces whose size animates get a perspective pass, on a small frame of their own.

Captions from speech

• Transcription runs on the Mac with whisper.cpp. The 148 MB model downloads once and is checked against its SHA-256.
• Captions go on a new track. Lines break at sentences and pauses, are shared evenly across each sentence and fit the canvas (portrait too).
• Each word lights up as it is said, and the captions are ordinary titles you can edit.
• Chinese and Japanese text is cut by character.
• .srt and .vtt files load too.

Zoom to clicks

• Screen recordings made in Splice now save the time and position of each mouse click beside the recording. Checking the mouse button needs no extra permission.
• A recording can zoom in toward each burst of clicks and back out between them. The zoom is written as keyframes.

For Claude: new splice ctl captions, zoom and leak commands, plus new options on look, canvas and text/style. The skill and README are updated. The project schema is now 7.

Adversarial review: every finding fixed (1 P0, 6 P1, 7 P2)

• Long captioned movies failed to export: the filter graph exceeded the command-line limit. Large graphs now go in a file.
• Word animation exported 29× slower than plain captions. Each piece is now a small overlay, now about 1.3× a plain caption.
• The background fill showed what crop or a hidden box had removed. Crop and hidden boxes now apply before the copy, in preview and export.
• Wipes on titles that come in a piece at a time crossed each word separately in export, while the preview ignored them. Both now wipe the title as a whole.
• Portrait captions ran past the canvas edge.
• Editing a caption's words broke its karaoke timing. The times now spread over the same stretch.
• Two transcriptions at once could collide in the same working folder.
• The click that stopped a recording became a zoom target, and click times ran about 0.2 s late.
• A very small hidden box made export fail.
• Grain looked heavier in preview than in export.
• Captions starting at the same moment spilled onto extra tracks.
• Background fills showed black sides at cuts during playback.
• ctl look accepted effects that titles can't take, without any effect.
• Out-of-order subtitles were dropped.

Tests

• New render tests cover the effects, background fill, hiding (including privacy and a box too small to blur) and letterbox.
• New unit tests cover word motion, caption layout (portrait, stacking, CJK, subtitles), zoom to clicks, click timing and whisper output.
• A live whisper test runs when whisper is installed.
