We are proud to announce the release of VRAM Shield v2.3.0!

This is a major milestone release. We have completely rewritten the core telemetry engine, eliminated all external background processes, and introduced a robust hybrid sensor architecture designed to protect your hardware investment.


What's New in v2.3.0:

1. Direct NVIDIA Integration

We have completely removed all third-party background monitors and ZIP extraction routines. VRAM Shield now communicates directly with the official NVIDIA Management Library (NVML).

  • Zero Overhead: Instantaneous sensor polling with zero latency.
  • 100% Secure: No more suspicious low-level drivers (WinRing0.sys) extracted to your system.
  • Antivirus-Proof: Bypasses false-positive flags from Windows Defender and third-party AVs.

2. Hybrid Telemetry Engine: True Hardware vs. Virtual Sensors

Not all GPUs are created equal. We have implemented an intelligent fallback system to ensure every user gets honest, actionable monitoring:

  • Plan A (True Hardware Sensor): On modern GPUs that feature physical memory sensors (e.g., RTX 40-series, high-end GDDR6X cards), the app reads the exact Memory Junction Temperature directly from the hardware.
  • Plan B (Virtual VRAM Sensor): On older graphics cards (RTX 30-series and older) that physically lack a VRAM sensor, VRAM Shield activates our proprietary Virtual VRAM Sensor. Calibrated through extensive stress-testing in the 53 Software hardware laboratory under AI-upscaling and rendering workloads, it dynamically estimates memory temperature.

3. Irreplaceable Hardware Protection

Modern VRAM chips are highly expensive, run extremely hot, and are soldered directly to the motherboard—making them practically impossible to replace. VRAM Shield v2.3.0 is built specifically to protect these vulnerable components from irreversible thermal degradation and premature failure.

4. Laptop Optimus Optimization (Smooth Graphs)

Gaming laptops aggressively put the discrete GPU to sleep to save battery, which previously caused empty graphs and rapid "sawtooth" clock spikes. We have implemented:

  • Thermal Cache: The app remembers the last valid temperature before the GPU entered a micro-sleep, keeping graphs smooth and physically accurate.
  • Phantom Wake Filter: Prevents temporary UI redraws from registering as false workload spikes, preserving your laptop's battery life.

5. Zero Background Crashes (WebView2 Cache Fix)

Fixed an issue where background utilities (like Windows Storage Sense or CCleaner) would wipe temporary browser files while the app was running, crashing the WebView2 engine. The browser cache directory has been permanently and safely moved to ProgramData\VRAM Shield\WebView2_Cache.

6. Restored UI Sync & Tray Minimize

Fixed a regression where clicking the "X" button closed the application entirely instead of minimizing it. The close-to-tray event handler and the graph synchronization loops have been fully restored.


Under the Hood:

  • Nuitka Compiler Fix: Fully resolved the webview.platforms.win32 active exclusion conflict by disabling the buggy built-in plugin and explicitly bundling required modules.
  • Registry Redirection Bypass: Added winreg.KEY_WOW64_64KEY fallbacks to ensure dependency verification succeeds across both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows environments.
  • Library Diet: Removed heavy HTTP requests and unneeded dependencies, reducing the final compiled .exe size and speeding up launch times to a fraction of a second.
