mapped ocean mask fails for 1/12 ocn + C1152 atm depending on ranks

In cpld_gridgen, when mapping the 1/12 (mx008) ocean land mask to the C1152 cube-sphere grid, ESMF will fail depending on ranks. The error is of the form

On Ursa, n=94 was found to work, but n=92 failed as above.

A ticket has been opened w/ ESMF-support using a small reproducer on Derecho. The reproducer on Derecho showed the same n=94/n=92 behaviour.
