Operational GFS bias correction coefficient files for GSI have a multi-month time period where NaNs were present in the files for the instrument GMI. That instrument was not previously assimilated but has now been turned on for active assimilation. When pulling the bias correction coefficient files directly from operations for these periods and attempting to assimilate GMI without resetting the coefficients, the GSI analysis will fail.
This issue documents a potential solution where we include a way within gdas_init to clean up the NaNs in the bias correction files when preparing initial conditions for the GFS.
