@boteye Here is an assessment by my friend who worked on this issue a while ago. It might be helpful.

Problem

The SeIF neural network requires a normal map of the input image to create the 3D model. That normal map is created by running the image through their own trained neural network, separate from the main one. The issue is that they haven't provided the trained model for us to download and use. For their demo images, they have provided the normal maps. For new photos, we can't create normal maps.

Tried

We created the normal map by using the library in this repo. However, the output for custom images is not acceptable, as shown below.

The normal map created using this library looks different from the ones in the SeIF demo. We also tried changing the R and B channels in the normal map image, but I didn't get the desired output.

We believe you might want to use the source code from SeIF to train the normal predicting network yourself. This might take some time, but the result should be better than using an external library.
