How do I manage local skills with skillshare?

So I've just asked Cursor to create a skill for me. Now I have a new skill in /Users/username/.cursor/skills

I have no intention - at least so far - to create any Git repository for my skills and put it there.

I just want to sync it across my local agents. How do I achieve that?

You do not need to create a Git repository for this use case.

If Cursor created the skill under ~/.cursor/skills, you can bring it under skillshare management with collect, then distribute it to your other local agents with sync.

If this is a fresh skillshare setup:

skillshare init --copy-from cursor --all-targets
skillshare sync

If skillshare is already initialized:

skillshare backup
skillshare collect cursor
skillshare sync

collect cursor finds local, non-symlinked skills in ~/.cursor/skills, copies them into skillshare's source directory, and then sync makes the configured targets point back to that source. After that, the source directory is the single place skillshare manages, and your local agent directories stay in sync through symlinks or copy mode depending on your target config.

Git is optional. It is only needed later if you want version history, push/pull, or cross-machine sync. For syncing across local agents on the same machine, collect + sync is enough.

One more option: if you prefer a visual workflow, you can also run:

skillshare ui

The dashboard has Targets, Collect, and Sync pages, so you can see what skillshare detected and collect Cursor-created skills back into the source without memorizing every CLI flag.

Small note: the UI Collect page is currently for skills. If you later want to collect agent files, use the CLI form: skillshare collect agents cursor.
