SDBN1 vertical gradients lack data in 2300

Hi all,

Running a test simulation with the SSP585 forcing crashed one year ahead, because for both dacabfdz and dtsdz, the files which should contain the 2300 fields seem to be empty. Example output of ncdump:

Is this a bug, or are these data simply not present and should they be ignored?

CESM2-WACCM only provides data through 2299, so the ocean forcing is also going to be missing from that final year.

But I would recommend that we remove the empty 2300 atmospheric forcing files.

There is some email discussion about adding the year 2300 as the 10-year average of 2290-2299.

I will say for myself that I don't like that idea. We did not do this for the Antarctic ocean forcing, we just let it go to the end of the year 2299 like the original CESM2-WACCM. But if having the year 2300 makes things tidier, I could be persuaded.

Thanks for the update. Either would work for me, just dealing with empty files or manually removing them for each individual scenario is quite cumbersome. (Hence, there should be no problem with the ocean forcing as those files aren't empty).

Hi Erwin, this issue was brought to my attention (along with some other corrupted files) via an email previously and the files were updated on May 27. I should have made a github post for this before and will make a separate post now regarding the other corrupted files.

Regarding whether 2300 should be included or not: Heiko had previously suggested to create output for 2300 as an average of the last 10 years. I believe this is also what the Greenland ocean forcing group is doing. Maybe the steering committee can collectively decide if 2300 is wanted or not, and then I can update the files accordingly?

Via email communication it was brought to my attention that some of the files on Globus were corrupted. These files were updated on May 27, so if you downloaded prior to this date you may need to re-download. The affected files are for 1000m resolution for the Greenland ice sheet:

• SSP126: acabf-anomaly, dtsdz
• SSP370: acabf-anomaly
• SSP534-over: dacabfdz
• SSP585: acabf-anomaly

For both ice sheets, all resolutions:

• all gradient files (dmrrodz, dtsdz, dacabfdz) for year 2300

Apologies for not posting about this before! I will try to remember to add issues addressed via email here as well.
