What would you like Grimmory to do?

It would be great if Grimmory could convert books between formats (EPUB, MOBI, PDF, etc.)

What problem does this solve for you?

It would be great if Grimmory could convert books between formats (EPUB, MOBI, PDF, etc.).

When trying to send some books to a Kindle using the "Send to Kindle" option, an error occurs because the EPUB format is incorrect.

These issues can often be resolved by converting the EPUB to EPUB using Calibre. The resulting EPUB is valid and complies with all EPUB format specifications.

This feature would also be useful for converting books to formats other than EPUB.

Would love to see this as well. Not the best with Java but I can try and have a look.

This is a valuable feature, and would be a huge value add. It would be very nice for admins to both. E able to set default conversion settings on import (via library or bookdrop), both betweeb EPUB versions and if possible to other formats. @longanimity if you have any ideas on this happy to discuss this further- there should probably be a tech proposal though for this, since it's a large complex set of changes. Would be good to get alignment on the direction of it before anyone spends too much time on it themselves

Hey @zachyale - from what I can see there are two approaches here. A pure Java PDF renderer or use Calibre.
Calibre will probably give the best results but it is a much heavier implementation than a Java converter. I guess that is where the major decision lies.

That is the big question with this. Is the goal something comparable to Calibre? Or a light implementation that just assumes a good bit on the conversion settings?

I put together a Rust implementation using Chromium, so it is definitely possible.
