What we have

• Dynamic patch/hook
• Crossplatform translation installer with GUI
  • translation pipeline for the installer
    • Though, some parts of the pipeline are still semi-automated, like extraction of text from the game -> conversion to PO format -> upload to transifex
• Multilingual landing page/site which should help to find the project through search engines like google: https://dfint.github.io

TODO

Higher priority

• Translate external text files from installer: work in progress.
  • What's done so far: Translation of raw files df-translation-library#8
• Extract hardcoded text with context: Improve extract_strings_with_subs.py dfint64_patch#118
• Automate searching of offsets on DF release: TODO: automate generation of offset files update-data#26
  • This is needed to reduce update time after DF release to minutes (fully automated) instead of hours (partially automated now)

Lower priority

• Static patch in Python - partial referential implementation
  • Draft of static patch in zig language: Patch executable file df-translation-library#7
• Update installer to use the static patch
• Integration of a changetext script, which will make it possible to fix grammatical problems (e.g., change word order or word forms according to the context). The script itself will be different for every language, so an effort from people with programming skills will be needed.
• Steam integration?

Why the static patch and external file modification it needed?

Static patching is more precise, and it will fix some common problems of the dynamic patch:

• double translation (like in Polish: they -> one -> jeden)
• by-word translation in text with word wrap
• translation of directory names of the DF mods...

But:

• static patch for executable files is a complex thing, so it needs a lot of work and a lot of time to debug it

Though:

• translation/modification of external text files is relatively simple, and it has the same benefits, so we can concentrate on it for now
