Hi Kevin

Great work on Jambox Pi. In your ongoing efforts to keep improving Jambox, have you considered using zita-ajbridge.

I have used it as a replacement for alsa_in / out in Jamulus OS and Ubuntu Studio.

Advantages from my point of view:-

1. Better audio quality.
2. Lower CPU usage
3. Less audio artifacts.

The latest release of jack2 seems easier to set up than using the stand alone zita-ajbridge, worked straight away with Ubuntu Studio.

raspian is slow to update packages, so for some alsa and jack stuff I build my own, usually based on "official" debian packaging. I had been waiting for debian to pick up jackd2 v1.9.18, but they still don't have it so I may just make my own package from upstream sources.

@cgn14 FYI I did some experiments a while back using zita. It seemed to offer a slight performance improvement, however it also had some side effects in terms of making it more complex to use multiple applications with jack audio,

My current view is that the best path forward for linux audio is to move to pipewire. it essentially replaces jack audio and pulseaudio, but in a way that works with existing applications, with rules that allow different settings for different applications. I've been working on a pipewire-based jambox version that has allowed me to rip out a lot complexity that was there for application-based audio settings, because that is already built into pipewire.

No estimate on when I will release it. I have it working for jamming, but still a few problems to deal with around settings automation, and I have limited time to work on it...
