[Project Proposal]: Satellite-imagery-based "virtual monitoring station"

Project Description

This topic will explore processing of satellite products to monitor conditions of an oceanic or coastal location.
The goal would be to identify events in a time series of extractions.

Existing satellite products should be used. Some example products that may be of interest:

• sea surface temperature
• ocean color
• harmful algal bloom
• turbidity

Code will need to be developed to

• access satellite imagery to extract values from polygons
• process + visualize time-series data

Expected Outcomes

A report which visualizes a particular event of interest along with the code to produce the visuals.

Skills required

Ability to produce code or provide expert input on particular events of interest.
