About You
My name is Roger Shi and i'm a junior at Academic Magnet High School. I am passionate about coding because of how much it has contributed to the world in the modern world and genuinely how impressive it is considering that plain words can be complied into functional apps. I got into coding mainly through Roblox, since I've been on the platform for 10 years now. I have continuously scripting on Roblox, and I am very passionate about it.
About Your App
The app helps easily identify types of trash and how to recycle them. This is done through a catalog system, where a user can easily identify the proper recycling method. Also, there is an AI-powered (Google) identifier that can identify the type of trash and the proper disposal method through taking a picture of the trash. The main issue we found out was the rampant amounts of improper trash disposal. This can have drastic effects on the effectiveness of recycling, like if a container contains more than 25% of unrecyclable trash, the entire container may be thrown out. Additionally, many people want to pitch in and properly dispose of their trash instead of just throwing away everything in the trash/landfill bin. This app helps curb this problem by giving less of a burden to people who want to dispose of their trash properly. Instead of searching each item individually online, they can just take a picture of the trash, and Recycle Expert will tell them the proper disposal method. It might encourage people who would otherwise not be willing to take the burden of recycling to recycle since the process is made much easier by Recycle Expert. It would help protect the environment by reducing waste that could otherwise be recycled. I used Next.js to create the app.
