get_triangulation() does not give the required triangulation

Hi all,

When I look to get the triangulation ( get_triangulation() ) from a FESpace that is defined on a boundary triangulation, I get a body-fitted triangulation instead of a boundary triangulation; it would be nice to get the boundary triangulation instead, so as to not lose information such as the glue. Is there any reason why it is like this here?

Spaces are always defined on body-fitted triangulations. At the end of the day the dofs belong to a face, which does not need to be attached to a particular cell. The boundary triangulation maps faces to a particular cell to make cell-to-face maps possible. But this wouldn't make sense for spaces.

I think this makes sense. It would have been nice to get face_to_cell from the glue directly. But it's not a deal breaker. It's also important to point out that you get a boundary triangulation in the serial case when you extract from a FESpace, whereas here, you do not. Thanks for this clarification.
