Unable to launch 26.1 versions on MacOS

• I searched the issue tracker for other issues covering my case
• This is a Launcher issue. (Usually if you can reproduce it with a fresh instance)

Describe the bug
A UI error shows up under any 26.1 or pre-release variants under MacOS, no logs are generated

"Hover for details"
Is presented in the new instance

To Reproduce

1. Starting with a clean setup
   • use gd defaults and let gdlauncher manage java instances
2. create a default 26.1 instance.

Expected behavior
Files to be downloaded and the game able to be launched

Actual Behaviour
"Error getting minecraft version: unknown variant default-user-jvm, expected game or jvm at line 1 column 1953..."

The text is not selectable so a screenshot will be included

Steps taken

• reviewed settings
• manually created "default-user-jvm"
• ran from terminal to view console logs

Operating System:

• OS: MacOS Sequia 15.7.4
• Launcher Version: 2.0.29.973
• Java Version: 25??? Never got that far
• Minecraft Version: 26.1
• Mod Loader: Vanilla, Forge

getting this same exact error on debian using the appimage. 1.21.11 and 1.16.5 both work fine.
