I believe Steam chat has potential as it does not require a phone number and would be easier to get people to move to then Signal in my opinion since more people have a Steam account and whilst I don't believe Steam Chat is end to end encrypted I believe they most likely have a pretty good privacy policy and I believe if it was shown on privacy pack more people might actually consider it rather than not even thinking about it since I doubt many people even thought of Steam Chat in the first place as I only thought of it whilst I was using my Steam Deck and thought it would be useful to have it installed on my phone.
I believe other alternatives already listed are better. I'm not going to deny that. But in terms of switching people away from WhatsApp and Telegram I believe Steam Chat is much better as I've manager to convert more people to download the Steam Chat app then I have Signal since lots of people already use Steam and recognise the brand.
Since people want a path to move away from Discord and WhatsApp I believe Steam Chat is a great alternative to both of them and whilst it doesn't have all the features of either of them it still has a solid mixture of each and a good foundation to become a better Discord and WhatsApp alternative in the future which I have high hopes for as I believe if there's any company that has the sustainable revenue to become a discord and WhatsApp alternative all at the same time it is Valve.
Maybe the main reason they haven't yet is because they don't see the user base for it yet but as more people start using it they might focus on it more.
Thank you for reading all that.
