[Alerting V2] [DOCS] [M2] View alert activity timeline on the Alerting v2 rule details page #6874

Description

@nastasha-solomon

Summary

PR #267866 adds an alert activity timeline widget to the Alerting v2 rule details overview tab, giving users a visual, color-coded per-series history of alert state transitions. The widget includes summary stats (episodes started, recovered, still open, median duration), a 'View all episodes' link filtered by rule and time range, and clickable segments that open episode detail pages. The rule details page layout also moves to a two-column arrangement. No Alerting v2 documentation exists yet; when created, it will need to cover the rule details page structure, the timeline widget, how to interpret per-series lanes, and navigation to episode pages.

Why this needs docs: Substantial new UI surface on an important page (rule details) with multiple interactive elements; comprehensive documentation will be required when the feature reaches GA.

Suggested edits

Alerting v2 rule details (page to be created) > Overview tab — Alert activity timeline

  • What the docs say: No Alerting v2 documentation currently exists on the Elastic docs site.
  • What to add: Create documentation for the rule details page, covering the new two-column layout: (1) the alert activity timeline widget on the left, including color-coded per-series lanes, transition dots, summary stats (episodes started, recovered, still open, median duration), and the 'View all episodes' link; (2) the sidebar on the right. Explain that lane labels only appear for grouped rules, that clicking a segment or dot opens the episode details page, and that the time range is persisted in the URL. Stack only (technical preview, feature flag required: xpack.alerting_v2.enabled: true), from 9.5.0.
