[Alerting V2] [DOCS] [M2] Choose between Alert and Signal mode when creating an Alerting v2 rule #6870

Description

@nastasha-solomon

Summary

PR #272417 replaces the 'Track active and recovered state over time' toggle in the Alerting v2 rule form with a Mode select offering Alert and Signal options, each with a title and description. Alert mode is the default and shows lifecycle-specific fields; Signal mode hides them. The selection maps to kind: alert or kind: signal. This UI change is still under the xpack.alerting_v2.enabled feature flag and not yet GA. No public Alerting v2 documentation was found.

Why this needs docs: Alerting v2 is a new product with no current public documentation; all UI changes need to be captured in new docs when the feature reaches technical preview or GA.

Suggested edits

Alerting v2 rule creation (new page needed) > Rule mode: Alert vs Signal

  • What the docs say: No public Alerting v2 documentation exists yet.
  • What to add: Create documentation for the Alerting v2 rule form that explains the Mode selector. Describe Alert mode (default, tracks active and recovered state over time, shows lifecycle fields, maps to kind: alert) and Signal mode (hides lifecycle fields, maps to kind: signal). Include the prerequisite that this feature requires the xpack.alerting_v2.enabled: true feature flag. Stack only (technical preview, feature flag required), from 9.5.0.
