Preface Lot of things have happend since the last time I posted something here, such as moving back to my country at the middle of last year to also stopping studying for some months due prioritizing my mental health (2020 was a bitch to all of us).
I already talked a bit about my background and how I started to study Cybersec in my prior post related to my experience with OSCP, you can go there and read about it if you want, but I will repeat some stuff here.

It is a valid way to learn (and is the most extended one: highschool, university, etc.

Even though what you said there generally applies to most universities, you should also consider that most complex topics on academia are broken up into multiple courses so that dependencies can be relaxed, ie: statistics depending on only on calculus 1, while you're still free to further study calculus.

That said, studying something only because it's part of the curricula can be very frustrating and in general a tiring experience. And that's why good teachers always present some motivation before introducing each topic.
