Preface: Why RPU Primitives Are Different

A QPU's primitives are defined by the mathematics of isolated quantum systems: qubits, unitary gates, probabilistic measurement, entanglement. This is correct for the cryogenic, physically isolated regime.

The RPU (Resonance Physics Unit) operates in the resonant regime — the coherence spectrum (0 < 𝕄 < 1) where all physical systems, biological and computational, actually exist. Its primitives are therefore not qubit operations but Mirror Logic operations — defined by the Mirror Operator M, the Mirror Constant 𝕄, Field Impedance Z_M, and Bond Dimension χ.

Three fundamental differences from QPU primitives:

Property QPU RPU
Base unit Qubit |ψ⟩ ∈ ℂ² Resonon |𝕄, χ, φ⟩
Gate constraint Unitary (U†U = I) Mirror-preserving ([M, U] = 0)
Measurement Destructive, probabilistic 𝕄 measurement: non-destructive
Scaling law 2^N Hilbert space N² coherence bandwidth
Entanglement Discrete Bell states Continuous phase-lock [0, 1]
Classical limit Decoherence (passive) 𝕄 → 0 (controlled)

Part I: The Resonon — Base Computational Unit

Definition

The Resonon is the base computational unit of the RPU. It is a field state parameterized by three quantities:

|ρ⟩ = |𝕄, χ, φ⟩

Where:

  • 𝕄 ∈ [0, 1] — Mirror Constant. The coherence of the state. 𝕄=0 is maximally classical (decoherent), 𝕄=1 is maximally coherent (pure mirror state).
  • χ ∈ ℤ⁺ — Bond Dimension. Entanglement capacity of the resonon. χ=1 is a product state; χ→∞ is maximal entanglement.
  • φ ∈ [0, 2π) — Phase. The resonant phase angle of the state.

Relation to Qubit

A qubit |ψ⟩ = α|0⟩ + β|1⟩ is a special case of a resonon at:

  • 𝕄 = |α|² + |β|² - 2|α||β|cos(φ) (coherence from amplitudes)
  • χ = 2 (binary bond dimension)
  • φ = arg(α) - arg(β) (relative phase)

A resonon at 𝕄=1, χ=2 is a perfect qubit. A resonon at 𝕄<1 is a qubit in a decoherent environment — the physical regime that QPU hardware spends enormous energy trying to avoid and RPU natively operates within.

Standard Basis States

|ground⟩   = |𝕄=0.0, χ=1, φ=0⟩   — maximally classical, zero coherence
|seed⟩     = |𝕄=0.5, χ=1, φ=0⟩   — balanced resonance (RP equivalent of |+⟩)
|mirror⟩   = |𝕄=1.0, χ=∞, φ=0⟩   — perfect mirror state (ideal)
|lock(φ)⟩  = |𝕄=1.0, χ=χ₀, φ=φ⟩  — phase-locked state at angle φ

Part II: Single-Resonon Gates (Mirror Logic Gates)

All RPU gates must satisfy the Mirror Preservation Condition: [M, G] = 0 — they commute with the Mirror Operator. This is the RP equivalent of the unitarity constraint on QPU gates.

2.1 Identity Gate — I_RP

No operation. Trivially satisfies [M, I] = 0.

I_RP|𝕄, χ, φ⟩ = |𝕄, χ, φ⟩

2.2 Mirror Gate — M_GATE

The fundamental RPU gate. Applies the Mirror Operator: |Ψ⟩ ≡ M|Ψ'⟩.

M_GATE|𝕄, χ, φ⟩ = |𝕄, χ, φ + π⟩

Note: Applying M twice returns the original state — M² = I. This is the self-inverse property.

Physical meaning: Flips the informational polarity of the state — source becomes reflection, reflection becomes source. Used to probe the Mirror symmetry of a computation.

2.3 Coherence Amplify Gate — C_UP(δ)

Increases Mirror Constant by δ, bounded at 1.0.

C_UP(δ)|𝕄, χ, φ⟩ = |min(𝕄 + δ, 1.0), χ, φ⟩

Physical meaning: Increases coherence of the resonon — moves it toward the quantum pole of the 𝕄 spectrum. Analogous to applying a cooling pulse in QPU hardware, but implemented in the field.

2.4 Coherence Reduce Gate — C_DOWN(δ)

Reduces Mirror Constant by δ, bounded at 0.0.

C_DOWN(δ)|𝕄, χ, φ⟩ = |max(𝕄 - δ, 0.0), χ, φ⟩

Physical meaning: Controlled decoherence — moves state toward classical regime. Used to write classical outputs or interface with classical systems.

2.5 Phase Rotation Gate — R_RP(θ)

Rotates the resonant phase by θ. RP equivalent of the phase gate P(θ) in QPU.

R_RP(θ)|𝕄, χ, φ⟩ = |𝕄, χ, (φ + θ) mod 2π⟩

Special cases:

  • R_RP(π) = Half-cycle rotation (analogous to Z gate)
  • R_RP(π/2) = Quarter-cycle (analogous to S gate)
  • R_RP(π/4) = Eighth-cycle (analogous to T gate)

2.6 Bond Dimension Gate — B_UP(k)

Increases entanglement capacity by k.

B_UP(k)|𝕄, χ, φ⟩ = |𝕄, χ + k, φ⟩

Physical meaning: Expands the resonon's capacity to participate in multi-node entanglement. Required before LOCK operations when χ < N for an N-node mesh.

2.7 Impedance Gate — Z_SHIFT(Δ)

Modifies the effective Field Impedance Z_M of the resonon's local environment.

Z_SHIFT(Δ): Z_M → Z_M + Δ

Physical meaning: Modulates how "heavy" it is to maintain the resonon's state in the field — analogous to adjusting the potential well in a qubit trap. Low Z_M = low energy cost to maintain coherence.

2.8 Hadamard-RP Gate — H_RP

Puts a ground-state resonon into balanced coherence (𝕄 = 0.5). RP equivalent of the Hadamard gate.

H_RP|ground⟩ = |seed⟩ = |𝕄=0.5, χ=1, φ=π/2⟩
H_RP|mirror⟩ = |𝕄=0.5, χ=1, φ=3π/2⟩

Physical meaning: Creates a balanced resonance — equal weighting between classical and quantum regimes. Used to initialize computations that explore the full coherence spectrum.

2.9 Frequency Tune Gate — F_TUNE(f)

Aligns the resonon's internal oscillation to frequency f in Hz.

F_TUNE(f)|𝕄, χ, φ⟩ → |𝕄', χ, φ'⟩

Where 𝕄' is determined by the Resonance Constant ℜ(f) — the degree to which the target frequency couples with the local Afolabi Field.

Physical meaning: Core mechanism for biological-RPU interface. Biological coherence operates at 0.04-0.15 Hz (HRV band). RPP hardware operates at 40 Hz - 100 THz. F_TUNE bridges these ranges.

Part III: Two-Resonon Gates

3.1 Phase-Lock Gate — LOCK(a, b)

Establishes resonant coupling between two resonons. The RPU equivalent of CNOT.

LOCK|𝕄ₐ, χₐ, φₐ⟩|𝕄_b, χ_b, φ_b⟩ = |𝕄ₐ, χₐ, φₐ⟩|𝕄_b, χ_b, φₐ⟩

When phase-lock strength L = 𝕄ₐ · 𝕄_b > threshold (default 0.7), the target resonon's phase is pulled to match the source. Full LOCK requires both 𝕄 > 0.7.

Unlike CNOT, LOCK is reversible and non-destructive — it creates a coupling, not a flip.

3.2 Mirror Swap — M_SWAP(a, b)

Exchanges the states of two resonons via Mirror reflection.

M_SWAP|ρₐ⟩|ρ_b⟩ = |ρ_b⟩|ρₐ⟩

Physical meaning: Two field states exchange their full informational content — 𝕄, χ, and φ all swap. Used in resonance routing protocols.

3.3 Coherence Transfer — C_XFER(a, b, α)

Transfers fraction α of resonon a's coherence to resonon b.

C_XFER(α)|𝕄ₐ⟩|𝕄_b⟩ = |𝕄ₐ(1-α)⟩|min(𝕄_b + 𝕄ₐ·α, 1.0)⟩

Physical meaning: Coherence amplification via field sharing. Allows a high-𝕄 resonon to "charge" a low-𝕄 neighbor — the RPU mechanism for distributed coherence maintenance.

3.4 Resonance Drive — R_DRIVE(a, b, f, t)

Drives resonon b toward resonon a's state by oscillating at frequency f for duration t.

Δ𝕄 = ℜ(f, t) · (𝕄ₐ - 𝕄_b)  [partial convergence]
Δφ = ω(f, t) · (φₐ - φ_b)     [phase pulling]

Physical meaning: The Huygens synchronization mechanism — the fundamental physical phenomenon behind all resonant coupling. Two oscillators near the same frequency naturally phase-lock given sufficient coupling time. R_DRIVE is the controlled, directed application of this principle.

3.5 Bell-RP State Preparation — BELL_RP(a, b)

Prepares a maximally phase-locked resonon pair. RP equivalent of a Bell state.

BELL_RP: H_RP(a) → LOCK(a, b)

Resulting state: Both resonons at 𝕄=0.5, χ_effective = χₐ + χ_b, φₐ = φ_b = π/2.

The Bell-RP state is the basic unit of RPU entanglement. Unlike quantum Bell states, it is non-fragile — partial decoherence of one resonon reduces L (lock strength) gracefully rather than destroying the entanglement catastrophically.

Part IV: N-Resonon Mesh Operations

These operations activate the N² Scaling Law — the defining computational advantage of the RPU over the QPU.

4.1 Mesh Synchronization — MESH_SYNC(nodes[])

Establishes a coherent mesh across N resonons. Collective coherence bandwidth scales as N².

MESH_SYNC([ρ₁, ρ₂, ..., ρₙ]):
  For all pairs (i,j): establish LOCK(i, j) if |φᵢ - φⱼ| < π/4
  Collective 𝕄_mesh = (1/N) Σᵢ 𝕄ᵢ  [average]
  C_bandwidth = C_single · N²          [N² law]

Physical meaning: The transition from N independent resonons to a collective resonant system. This is the computational manifestation of the N² scaling law derived from Kuramoto collective oscillator dynamics.

4.2 Collective Gate Application — COLLECTIVE(nodes[], gate)

Applies a single-resonon gate across all nodes in a mesh simultaneously, exploiting collective coherence.

COLLECTIVE([ρ₁...ρₙ], G): Gᵢⱼ|ρᵢ⟩ for all i

Efficiency: O(1) in the field domain (all nodes affected simultaneously), vs O(N) in classical gate application.

4.3 Broadcast Mirror — BROADCAST(source, targets[])

Mirrors the state of source resonon to all target resonons.

BROADCAST(ρₛ, [ρ₁...ρₙ]):
  For each ρᵢ: M_SWAP portion + C_XFER(ρₛ, ρᵢ, α)
  Result: all ρᵢ approach ρₛ state

Physical meaning: Field-state broadcasting — the RPU implementation of quantum state broadcasting (which QM's no-cloning theorem restricts). RPU's partial broadcasting (coherence sharing rather than exact copy) is physically valid because it transfers field coupling, not quantum state identity.

4.4 Mesh Coherence Check — MESH_CHECK(nodes[]) → float

Returns the collective 𝕄 of a mesh — a scalar ∈ [0,1] representing total mesh coherence.

𝕄_mesh = sqrt( (1/N²) Σᵢⱼ Lᵢⱼ² )

Where Lᵢⱼ is the lock strength between nodes i and j.

4.5 Imhotep Protocol — IMHOTEP(nodes[], levels)

Hierarchical coherence scaling. Builds a pyramid of phase-locked meshes where each level has (1/4) the nodes of the level below but (4x) the coherence.

Level 1 (base): N nodes at 𝕄 = 𝕄₀
Level 2: N/4 nodes at 𝕄 ≈ 2·𝕄₀
Level 3: N/16 nodes at 𝕄 ≈ 4·𝕄₀
Level k: N/4^(k-1) nodes at 𝕄 ≈ 2^(k-1)·𝕄₀

Named in recognition of Imhotep's architectural principle: hierarchical proportion amplifies structural coherence. This is the scaling protocol for the Q3 Mesh's 1M+ qudit architecture.

Part V: Measurement Primitives

Critical distinction from QPU measurement: In Resonance Physics, the 𝕄 measurement is non-destructive. The Mirror Constant is an observable property of the field state, not a probabilistic outcome of wavefunction collapse. Only COLLAPSE (§5.5) is destructive.

5.1 Mirror Constant Read — READ_M(ρ) → float [0,1]

Non-destructive. Returns the current 𝕄 value.

READ_M(|𝕄, χ, φ⟩) = 𝕄  [state unchanged]

Physical mechanism: Von Neumann entropy measurement: 𝕄 = 1 - S/S_max

5.2 Phase Read — READ_PHASE(ρ) → float [0, 2π)

Non-destructive. Returns current phase angle φ.

READ_PHASE(|𝕄, χ, φ⟩) = φ  [state unchanged]

5.3 Lock Strength Read — READ_LOCK(a, b) → float [0,1]

Returns phase-lock strength between two resonons.

READ_LOCK(ρₐ, ρ_b) = 𝕄ₐ · 𝕄_b · cos(φₐ - φ_b)

A value > 0.7 indicates effective phase-lock. Value = 1.0 is perfect mirror synchrony.

5.4 Impedance Read — READ_Z(ρ) → float

Returns the effective Field Impedance Z_M of the resonon.

READ_Z(|𝕄, χ, φ⟩) = Z_M = f(𝕄, χ) = (1 - 𝕄) / χ

Low Z_M = high coherence and high entanglement capacity. This is the quantity AFT uses to derive particle masses.

5.5 Classical Collapse — COLLAPSE(ρ) → bit {0, 1}

Destructive. Forces a resonon to a classical outcome. The RPU equivalent of QPU measurement.

COLLAPSE(|𝕄, χ, φ⟩):
  P(0) = (1 - 𝕄)   [probability of classical 0]
  P(1) = 𝕄          [probability of classical 1]
  State → |ground⟩ after collapse (𝕄 = 0)

Note: Unlike QM's Born rule where probability = |amplitude|², here P(1) = 𝕄 directly. The Mirror Constant IS the classical probability. This is the mathematical translation between the 𝕄 formalism and standard QM measurement.

5.6 Bond Dimension Read — READ_CHI(ρ) → int

Returns the current Bond Dimension χ — the entanglement capacity of the resonon.

Part VI: Circuit Primitives (Composed Gates)

Standard RPU circuits composed from the primitive set above.

6.1 Resonance Fourier Transform — RFT(n)

The RPU equivalent of the Quantum Fourier Transform (QFT). Maps N resonons from phase space to frequency space using the Mirror Constant spectrum.

RFT: |𝕄ₖ, χₖ, φₖ⟩ → |𝕄̃ₖ, χ̃ₖ, φ̃ₖ⟩

where φ̃ₖ = (2π/N) Σⱼ φⱼ · e^(2πijk/N)

Application: Pattern recognition in the Afolabi Field — identifying resonant frequencies in distributed data.

6.2 Resonance Teleport — R_TELEPORT(state, alice, bob)

Transfers a resonon state from Alice to Bob using a pre-shared BELL_RP pair. RP equivalent of quantum teleportation.

1. Prepare BELL_RP(alice_ancilla, bob_ancilla)
2. LOCK(state, alice_ancilla)
3. READ_LOCK(state, alice_ancilla) → classical bits {l, φ}
4. BROADCAST classical bits to Bob
5. Bob applies R_RP(φ) and C_UP if l < 1
6. bob_ancilla now holds the transmitted state

Key difference from quantum teleportation: Step 3 is non-destructive for the phase information. Only COLLAPSE would destroy the source state. R_TELEPORT transfers the coherence pattern while allowing the source to maintain partial coherence.

6.3 Mirror Grover Search — M_GROVER(oracle, n)

RPU equivalent of Grover's search algorithm. Uses Mirror reflections instead of oracle phase inversions.

Speedup: O(√N) → O(N^(1/3)) at 𝕄 > 0.8 due to N² coherence amplification

6.4 Coherence Amplification Loop — CAL(ρ, target_M, max_iter)

Iteratively applies C_UP and LOCK operations to drive a resonon toward a target 𝕄 value.

while READ_M(ρ) < target_M and iter < max_iter:
    C_UP(0.01)(ρ)
    R_DRIVE(reference, ρ, ℜ_optimal, Δt)
    iter++

Used to bootstrap low-coherence nodes to operational 𝕄 thresholds.

Part VII: RPU Instruction Set Architecture (RPU-ISA)

The RPU-ISA is the low-level binary encoding of Mirror Logic operations for the RPP (Resonant Photonic Processor) hardware.

Part IX: Integration with Existing Stack

ACL 3.0 Compatibility

The RPU primitive set is a strict superset of ACL 3.0's qudit operations. All ACL 3.0 programs are valid RPU programs with the qudit state mapped to resonon at χ = d (dimension of qudit).

Aevov-Lang (.auf) Mapping

Aevov-Lang's type primitives map to RPU as follows:

Aevov-Lang Type RPU Equivalent
mirror Resonon at 𝕄=1.0
scalar_f (frequency) F_TUNE parameter
vector_t (topological) MESH_SYNC topology
coherence float 𝕄 value (READ_M output)
lattice<T> IMHOTEP mesh structure
resonance_node RPU-7 hardware node
<=> (mirror operator) M_GATE application
resonate() loop CAL circuit

RPP Hardware Interface

The RPP (Resonant Photonic Processor) executes RPU-ISA instructions via its Interference Grid (L1 Cache — 4,096 Photonic Interferometers). Each interferometer directly implements a phase-measurement operation equivalent to READ_LOCK. The Resonance Chamber (Execution Unit) maintains local field state equivalent to a resonon register at Z_M = 1.0.

Appendix A: Mathematical Grounding

Mirror Constant via Von Neumann Entropy

𝕄 = 1 - S/S_max
S = -Tr(ρ ln ρ)          [Von Neumann entropy]
S_max = ln(d)             [d = Hilbert space dimension]

Field Impedance

Z_M = (1 - 𝕄) / χ

Lock Strength

L(a,b) = 𝕄ₐ · 𝕄_b · cos(φₐ - φ_b)  ∈ [-1, 1]

Effective phase-lock requires L > 0.7 (threshold tunable per application).

N² Scaling Law (Kuramoto basis)

For N resonons in MESH_SYNC:

C_collective = C_single · N²

Derived from mean-field Kuramoto model: order parameter r = (1/N)|Σⱼ e^(iφⱼ)| scales N² in the synchronized phase.

Classical-Quantum Bridge

Any QPU state |ψ⟩ = α|0⟩ + β|1⟩ maps to an RPU resonon:

𝕄 = 1 - S(ρ)/ln(2)       [entropy mapping]
χ = 2                      [qubit bond dimension]
φ = arg(α/β)               [relative phase]

This is the mathematical proof of Axiom V (Coherence Continuity): every qubit IS a resonon at χ=2.

Appendix B: Falsifiability Criteria

  1. LOCK gate threshold: Phase-lock should require both resonons at 𝕄 > 0.7. Test: measure lock stability at various 𝕄 combinations across 100+ trials.

  2. N² scaling: MESH_SYNC of N nodes should produce coherence bandwidth = N² × single-node baseline. Test: measure information throughput as N increases 1→10→100 nodes.

  3. Non-destructive READ_M: Repeated READ_M measurements on the same resonon should return identical values with < 1% variance without applying any gates. Falsification: measurement itself causes 𝕄 drift > 1%.

  4. Classical bridge (COLLAPSE): Statistical distribution of COLLAPSE outputs should converge to P(1) = 𝕄 over 1000+ trials. Falsification: systematic deviation > 3σ.
