How to get costume number in custom extension?

I'm trying to make a turbowarp extension, how do you get the sprite's costume number in javascript? In the util.target object of course.

assuming you're on desktop: you can check yourself! you can open your browser's developer tools' Console tab (ctrl+shift+i, or just f12 in browsers) and there you can type vm then press Enter to access and explore the VM object. this is very useful for a lot of things.

in particular, targets are in an array at vm.runtime.targets.
