Sometimes I don't understand how the Qwen team looks at this project. What is the role envisioned for this project? Is Qwen Code supposed to be a multi-provider open harness? If so, why is there no marketing as such for this product? Is it supposed to be the go-to harness for Qwen models? If so then why do the Qwen docs not highlight it as such?
On one hand I really get the impression that this isn't taken as a serious project by the Qwen team. In the marketing releases or provider docs there is little mention of Qwen Code and it often appears to be treated as a second class option even for the Qwen models. And on the other hand I see that the project is still being developed.
My main concern personally here is whether I should pick it up again or not. I'm currently in a phase where I'm not exploring or playing with tools but rather need stable and mature tools to get stuff done. I recently ran into a case where I need to have an agent on my VPS box. I weighed various options and wondered about going back to my old friend Qwen Code. But I'm just so confused with the messaging.
Looking at the feature set it seems awesome. And I've had great time with Qwen Code in the past. It was my main harness as soon as it was released in late July 2025. I used it intensively for a couple of months, but it had poor compatibility with non-Qwen models and I had to look elsewhere. But I just don't know now whether it's actually fit for production-adjacent usage. There are no reviews after all. There are no posts by Qwen team on X regarding this product. And the leadership of course has been completely overhauled.
TL;DR: Who is this product for?
