Hey @opengov-africa I want to take this up! Here is my proposed approach:

Objective
Design an automated system to track contributors in a repository by logging their merged pull requests into a centralized Google Sheet. This will allow the organization to maintain a record of who contributed, what they contributed, and when, without manual intervention.

Scope
Track only merged pull requests to ensure contributions counted are accepted and integrated.
Capture the following data for each contributor:

• GitHub username
• PR title
• PR URL
• Merge date
• Optional: Labels (e.g., hacktoberfest-accepted, bugfix)

Store the information in a Google Sheet in the organization’s shared Drive for easy access and reporting.

Technical Approach
Implement a GitHub Actions workflow triggered on pull_request events of type closed.
Filter for merged PRs only.

Implementation Plan

• Fork the repository (since I am not a collaborator).
• Create the Google Sheet and generate a service account key.
• Implement the workflow and test on merged PRs in the fork.
• Document setup instructions in the repository README.
• Submit a PR suggesting the workflow, with instructions for the organization to adopt it.

I have added a contributor tracker Markdown file in the repo and also created a Google Sheet version for live tracking. Both can be used by the organization for Hacktoberfest tracking.
