Suggest & Expand on OpenGov Africa Programs and Events

Hey Hacktoberfest contributors! 👋

We’re inviting you to suggest or expand upon the types of programs and events OpenGov Africa engages in as a community.
Your ideas will help us shape future initiatives that advance transparency, accountability, citizen participation, and open governance across Africa.

What This Issue Is About

We already have some program ideas listed here:
👉 OpenGov Africa Programs Repository

We’d love you to:

  • Suggest new programs or event types, or
  • Expand existing ones with more detailed structures and implementation plans.

Rules & Contribution Guidelines

  1. Create a new suggestion or update an existing suggestion:

    • Open a new issue using this issue template in the programs repository describing your idea or update to an existing program suggestion.
  2. Each program or project suggestion must be detailed and realistic.
    Please include:

    • Program Title: A clear, short, descriptive title (e.g., “Open Data Fellowship for African Journalists”).
    • Overview: A short summary of what the program or event is about.
    • Problem Statement: What challenge or gap does this program aim to address?
    • Goals & Objectives: The outcomes you expect to achieve.
    • Target Audience / Participants: Who should this engage (citizens, developers, students, CSOs, etc.)?
    • Implementation Plan: Step-by-step outline of how it will run (including duration, team roles, and partnerships).
    • Budget & Funding Plan: Estimated costs, possible sponsors, or sustainable funding models.
    • Impact Measurement: How will success be tracked and reported?
    • Community Involvement: How will the wider community participate?
    • Alignment with OpenGov Africa’s Mission: Why this fits our goals of openness, accountability, and civic participation.
  3. Once your idea is ready, open a Pull Request (PR) in the
    Project Programs Repository.

  4. Tag your PR with the label hacktoberfest or hacktoberfest-accepted to ensure it qualifies for Hacktoberfest.

  5. If you’re unsure where your idea fits, discuss it here in the comments or connect with the Programs Team on Discord before submitting your PR.
