Problem statement

Sometimes the posters are a bit ugly or limited.

Proposed solution

Add an option to use an external poster provider, for example https://btttr.cc/configure, and configure them globally for greater customization and to be able to choose posters without needing external add-ons.

The default posters and catalog are provided by cinemeta addon, you can remove it and use a different addon, i use aiometadata to get btttr posters.

Yes, but sometimes some plugins don't have the option to choose a custom poster provider, or the bttr add-on doesn't work properly.

This is purely a source issue and not a problem on nuvio's end, nuvio already allows you to use any poster and catalog via add-ons, like i said try it with aiometadata, here a little guide:

For more quality of life experience and a aiometadata configured already with btttr posters, you can follow this long guide or follow simple guide provided below

• Go to Art section on your aiometadata provider
• Scroll down and find "Url Patterns"
• On poster pattern add: "https://btttr.cc/poster-a/imdb/poster-default/{imdb_id}.jpg"
• On Episode thumbnail pattern add: "https://btttr.cc/poster-a/imdb/poster-default/{imdb_id}.jpg"

After that you would need to add some catalog's in catalog section, create mdblist account and connect your account with aiometadata via API key and add your preferred catalogs found on mdblist.

I still think a "global poster provider" is a good idea within Nuvio if needed. It would centralise posters under one flag, making it less difficult to debug between addons behaviours towards posters and could reach catalogs that aren't customisable by addons like the "More Like This" section on the Meta Page.

For example, I have Better Posters in my setup:

But it can't reach the "More Like This" section because it isn't a catalog delivered by addons.

Nuvio is a front-end and posters are within that scope in a way. If some future updates includes native catalogs or recommendations like this within Nuvio, this request makes sense.

That's why I said it; the integration with add-ons isn't 100% complete.

Yes, That could actually happen via TMDB or Mdblist Integration as they are already integrated but Nuvio would still be depended on external provider or maybe you are suggesting a option to add any external provider that replaces all the posters with that external provider? I personally don't like the idea of a "global provider" or Nuvio maintaining their own catalog or posters with customization, tho a option to replace all posters with any external provider seems like a good idea.

In simple words what i am saying is, I like the idea of "built-in" catalogs and poster service but using something like TMDB or Mdblist to do that, instead of them mataining all that cause why would you reinvent the wheel, also speaking of Mdblist they should add a option to directly add catalogs from Mdblist.
