Add Modal should ask for feed name when getting the link

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
right now when we add a feed and it saves it uses the link to generate a name
but for some feeds like steam it gets the app id so later on the user need to edit it to change the name

there can be a text box to write down the name and it can be optional if you know the name is going to be extracted correctly but if you do put something there it will be the name when its saved

i dont think any alternative exist but if anyone has better ideas sure.

I actually considered this in the design of the Add Modal, but I decided against this because I felt it would clutter the dialogue too much (there are many per-feed settings that could be configured), and the feature already exists in the Manage Sources settings menu (if you right click, you can change the names).

Is the Manage Sources Menu Tab too unwieldy for this?

If you can come up with a proposal that doesn't clutter the Add Modal, I can take a look at implementing it (or even better, you can contribute a PR too, we are a community project after all! 😉 )

about it being cluttered, i feel we have to consider this fact what are the odds of someone needing a certain setting for a specific feed to be changed, while removing clutter is a valid opinion, user experience needs to be taken into account as well. idk how many people actually have the problem i have its the numbers are super low like less than 50 or something. i guess it makes sense to not have every option in there. but then again why make the user press a few clicks to do something while it could be done in much less

about the PR unfortunately i have zero knowledge for coding but i know a little bit of photoshop so here is a rough sketch of what it could looks like if only the name section is added to the dialog.

in my honest opinion it doesnt look cluttered maybe some will disagree so i leave it to you,

actually here is an idea, i just thought about here i feel we can meet in the middle with this, how about a toggle or an arrow that shows "advance" options that are hidden by default and if the user wants to access them its right there? i do think having it for just the name is not needed but if you think having the name option might force other options to be added there, this could be a way to keep it clean at the same time

This particular mock-up won't work because, if you notice when you add a feed, it has to find the feeds first. Each of the found feeds can have a separate meaning and name and settings. You have to have a configuration for each feed.

This is how it will have to be, but I haven't found a way to make this clean on a per-feed basis. I originally planned for a drop-down icon on the right of the feed, but the spacing got annoying and I deemed the logic simply too niche to require it.

Fluent Reader didn't have the "add feed" button in the first place: you always had to edit it from the Manage Sources menu. This to me was obviously bad, but it showed enough people didn't care about having a really awkward way to add feeds that such configuration was probably too niche to add on a first pass.

To my knowledge, you are the first to ask for this. It's a reasonable request: I'm not opposed to it. Just trying to figure out a way to do it that's good, and if it's worth my dev time on this project.

It's also important to keep in mind the horizontal spacing here has to work with small screens. Shrink the window down to its smallest size, see how much space there is with the feed URLs (which can get really long), and try to find a place to add an "advanced" button to show new options. Really, what it would have to be is a small icon.

Will have to also think about translations for these options, but I think we can reuse most of the ones from Manage Sources....

yeah fair point about small screens and long urls… didn't think of that. an icon could maybe work but then you're right, it's getting cramped and probably not worth the hassle for something so niche when you have other stuff you are working on.

its totally fine if you want to leave it for now till when you think is time to work on smaller convenience stuff. and good luck with the rest of the project and thank you for keeping the project alive.

I'll try to think of something, and if I do, I will add it. Or perhaps a good Samaritan will come by to do so :). This is a reasonable request, and not too hard to mechanically implement. It's just a question of design, and I couldn't come up with an answer I liked before.

If someone else comes by this thread, and wants me to work on this, please reply with a comment as well so I know it's a priority.
